Forums - Sony - What should Sony do for the next Playstation?

Vita TV in Japan cost a $100~ dollar less than the standard Vita was at the time (which cost $200~ from Feb 2013 following a $50-$100 pricedrop. The good ol' pricecut days).

A $100+ cheaper "PS6P TV" is on the cards and will make a difference in sales, nothing massive mind you but it should help. The problem would be logistics. It might be too much of a headache to have many SKU's launched, and this is ignoring disc drive bundles.

They'd also have to make DualSense fully compatible with the PS6.

PSSR 2.0 is such a significant upgrade over 1.0, that I do have to wonder if the handheld is a PS5 lite type of situation but with PSSR 3.0 (and future upgrades) to really help get PS6 level graphics just without PS6 specific features.

But I would also agree that a PS5 lite handheld in of itself is not that exciting if you own a PS5 right now. But I suppose this depends on price point and hardware features. Either way, I think Sony hardware is going to be very exciting to see in the next few years.

I'm a PS5 owner and I'm hugely excited for the Hybrid. I imagine image quality will beat PS5 when docked and it could handle RT better but more or less you'd be looking at similar performance profiles as PS5 in most games. I'd spend decent money to replace my current PS5 with a portable/hybrid system, but if you remove that hybrid function I think you're left with a far less compelling device for existing owners. It'd be like trying to sell a very muted mid-gen upgrade to people who don't like spending money, an oxymoron of sorts.

I'd be interested to see if there are innovations though that do arise from the new hardware including OS and gameplay functions.

Given the Vita TV came without a controller, A dualsense is like $80... You might is well just pay an extra $20 and get the hybrid system lol.

If you're an existing PS5 owner (so already have a controller) I just see it being extremely unlikely you pick the TV/lite model over the hybrid. There's technically a space for it but as you said is it even worth complicating the production lines and marketing at launch? I'm not sure.

PS6 Lite can be $200 less than the PS6 Handheld if SNY really wants to bring most PS4 owners over and if they really really want to try and grow the brand overall with new players. Look what a $399 PS4 did, and the economy was well into recovery and decent at that point, with a relatively strong XB brand still. Imagine what a $399-$499 PS6 Lite next holiday could do.

SNY could launch the PS6 Lite and PS6 Handheld late 2027, and then launch the main PS6 about 3 years later, which they'd probably have to name PS6 Pro then. They could also launch all 3 at once, but then they'd almost have to sell digital only SKU's so as to have a streamlined launch. Obviously they'd want to offer a disc drive attachment, and/or hopefully you'd be able to detach and transfer your old PS5 Slim disc drive and use it for your PS6.

PS1   - ! - We must build a console that can alert our enemies.

PS2  - @- We must build a console that offers online living room gaming.

PS3   - #- We must build a console that’s powerful, social, costs and does everything.

PS4   - $- We must build a console that’s affordable, charges for services, and pumps out exclusives.

PRO  -%-We must build a console that's VR ready, checkerboard upscales, and sells but a fraction of the money printer.

PS5   - ^ -We must build a console that’s a generational cross product, with RT lighting, and price hiking.

PRO  -&- We must build a console that Super Res upscales and continues the cost increases.

In a world where a base PS5 costs $650, there is no way in hell you're getting a $400 PS6 Lite. Just not gonna happen.
From inflation, to tariffs, to wars, to the memory crisis, the entire supply chain is fucked.

Some in the PS Nation thread most recent posts look to think otherwise. They seem to think PS5 is purposely way overpriced.

It is overpriced, but mostly due to market conditions. The consumer electronics sector in general is just in a shit state for the foreseeable future, and PS6 will not be exempt from this.

Market conditions like GTAVI is on the way?

TV's are still pretty cheap.

TVs are not consoles. Look at phones, PC components, Xbox Series, Switch 2.

Memory costs multiple times what it cost a year ago, plus there's tariffs, the war in Iran, and crippling inflation.

PS6 at $400 is a pipe dream, you'll be lucky if the base model is under $700.

Who said TV's were consoles? TV's are consumer electronics.

Nin always sells hardware for a decent profit. They also only increased prices $50 and not $100 like SNY did. MS don't get the same deals SNY do for mass manufacturing, especially based on unit sales.

Maybe a pipe dream late 2027, perhaps, but I've also said I could see a year delay for PS6 (assuming the hardware remains as leaked).

PS6 selling even reasonably well is a pipe dream if it costs $700+
