Actually my conspiracy theory is that Sony increased the price very early in the year so they can offer "a special price" in black friday season. I don't think it's their priority the sales of the console from March to October as much as November and on.

That's definitely the case. They increased it now a lot so they can still roll promotions at the end of the year and going into next year.
