Can't say the best song, I don't know it, but I do know ones I regard highly for a variety of reasons. There's a wide range of potential genres and bands that I could consider my favourite. I love New Wave, Synth Pop, Hip Hop, Punk, Post-Punk, alternative, shoe gaze & Dreampop, electronic, there's so much. Maybe I'll do genre specific posts in this thread. I have a few:
All of these songs are from 1979 in the UK.
Joy Division
Kate Bush
Sioxsie and the Banshees
Echo and the Bunnymen
And close it out with Gary Numan
I describe myself as a little dose of toxic masculinity.
Here are some other related songs from the 1980s:
Echo and the Bunnymen 1984
New Order (Joy Division after Ian Crutis's suicide) 1986
And I'll throw in some Tears for Fears have a lot of enduring hits, but this is my favourite from them 1982
And throw in some My Bloody Valentine (technically, they're from Ireland, but are primarily English band members) 1987
But speaking of Irish music, Thin Lizzy... 1977 - early photo-metal song
