Forums - Gaming - Octopath Traveller 0 announced for Switch 1 and 2, PS4/5, Xbox Series, and PC

I really wanted to get in on this series and I was having fun with firat game, I wasn't very good at it but after finding out the ending is a long drawn out series of fights but even worse than an Atlus game does it, instead with a boss rush, no saves and highly reliant pn RNG. It made playing it seem really pointless. I was having fun with it tough, so I'd definitely keep a new game on my radar. I absolutely loved the open ended exploration and coming across the characters in any oder you want but I did find issues with that and limitations to the word. I hope they realise a vision of the same thing but open world, less random battles and a smoother battle pace like Expedition 33 with it's deep bass sound and all. I'd be in for this.

It’s all they’ve been doing. I can see I’m in the extreme minority here, but from an outsider’s perspective it seems a bit redundant. Glad you’re all vibing on it, I guess. Eat it up! There’s plenty more where that came from.

It must be cheap/low budget for them to redo it and apply it to remakes of games that wouldnt really sell that much and otherwise probably wouldnt been remade.

I'm hoping for a HD 2D remake of Chrono Trigger, Terranigma, Secret of Evermore, Soul Blazer and Illusion of Gaia in the future if not separate non-HD 2D remakes.

Probably Paladin's Quest as well.

But to say thats all they've been doing isnt true.

Final Fantasy XVI, Final Fantasy VII Remake series (Rebirth), SaGa series remakes and new games, Fantasian, Bravely series, Final Fantasy Pixel Remasters, Final Fantasy Tactics IC, Dragon Quest spinoffs, Forspoken, Tactics Ogre, Harvestella, Star Ocean 2 remake and Star Ocean 6, Valkyria Elysium, Stranger of Paradise FF, Chrono Cross remaster  - none of these games are HD 2D games and these are all the games they've released in the past 3 years.

Square Enix fans such as myself are feasting.

Factually, no.

They've released plenty of 3D games and Final Fantasy ones in the meantime that have nothing to do with the HD2D style.

Not only that but if you remember the year that Octopath 2 went out. They also released a number of AA games in different genre and styles that sadly mostly flopped.

HD2D based games are solely the ones that seemingly have had the most popularity amongst their AA offering which means in turn, They will continue to push for those to be produced.

Again, it's fine if you personally do not adhere to what they're doing here or feel it redundant (which isn't even true considering how subsequent HD2D games have all kind of different artistic touches touches to differentiate them). You can only accept that is not an opinion shared by most at the moment.

Yep, just like Auto-Tune! Everyone loves that crap. Haha! Don’t take me too seriously. I can tell I’ve struck a nerve, not just with you, but with many in this thread. Weren’t the last two trailers in the same style? I just am get samey vibes from them. I’m sure there’s nuance. Anyway, I’ll steer away from this thread. I didn’t mean to spark a conversation.

Wow are we really not over the "HD2D style is overused and old news" debate ... ? That's just sad considering this is simply an artistic choice we're speaking here. It's likely to age just as well as games from the 4th generation did.

It's fine not to really vibe with the style though, but there's never been anything to be so upset about considering also that Square Enix has been one the sole devs of this kind of style (and a few pixel art games Indies here and there).

Factually wrong. Your post was stupid with a stupid and nonsensical comparison. You don't like it? That's fine. But it was a shit post.

Bite my shiny metal cockpit!

Octopath Traveller 1 came out in 2018, 7 years ago.

In that time we've had Octopath Traveller 2, Triangle Strategy, Live a Live, and the Dragon Quest 3 remake.

That's 5 HD-2D games over 7 years so far, I wouldn't call that overused.

Granted, Dragon Quest 1-2 Remake and Octopath 0 both come out late this year, and showing both Octopath 0 and Adventures of Elliot back to back in the Direct may not have been the best choice, but I think that proximity makes it look more prevalent than it really is.

Did I do it? Did I make a shit post? Sweet! Been trying to figure out how to shitpost for the longest time. Thanks for the recognition!
