I’d give it an 5. Unless you’re exclusively a PS player, there isn’t much reason to stick to the platform. Outside of Astro Bot, everything I’ve wanted to play throughout the generation has since been ported to PC or released on PC day one.

My PS5 has turned into a glorified PS4 lately. Mainly playing Wipeout: Omega Collection, Shadow of the Colossus remake, and both Gravity Rush games. Console wise, it’s a great piece of tech, but software side has been very weak overall.

I think it goes deeper than that. It's not only about all games available on PC, but also being more expensive and less convidative than on PCs. PCs were always better value than consoles in any given time, but now that difference is even more pronounced

The only reason why consoles still a thing is culture I guess

PS5 when released was good value (great tec and inexpensive), but after few years is a bit overpriced for what it offers. Problem is when released there were few games that really looked next gen. While those games are definitely coming eventually, it means your PS5 was essentially a "PS4 2.0" until those games

Nintendo "solved" this by tricking their customers, read: Not releasing their games on base Switch even when they clearly are Switch 1 games. I think Nintendo is more concerned with hardware sales than software

Sony however want to maximize software profits as results games like Horizon FW were released on PS4. Have Sony kept all their first party on PS5 the perception could have changed a bit

For PS6 all Sony games need to be exclusive, and they will need to release more A/AA games too. Even if they don't sell a lot, game that can break even for 1-2 million are fine

Maybe in Brazil, here an equivalent pre-build PC is at least double the price of a PS5. And then you still have a lot more hassle than the convenience of consoles.

My oldest takes his PS5 with him when he spends the weekend at the grandparents. The PS5 easily fits in a backpack and all you need is a controller and a power/hdmi cord.

My youngest can't take his desktop with him and now is looking at the XBox Rog Ally for playing at the grandparents, which will also cost a lot more than a PS5.

Neither is interested in Switch 2 which would be the cheaper alternative :/

With few exceptions, maybe Stellar Blade. Rift Apart. Cyberpunk 2077. About everything I have on PS5 feels no different and could be and some are also PS4 games. So It may as well be a PS4 plus. So meh I guess. This is the worst generation of consoles, and it won't get better from here, but worse.

The quantity and quality of this generation are both very high, will probably end up higher than the last generation by a decent margin. The main weakness of PS, PC, and most of all Xbox, is that they are losing their identity due to lack of big exclusives. The other weakness is diminishing returns and game engines taking too long (or failing) to meaningfully take advantage of the powerful hardware.

The plus side is that these platforms will have a VERY long lifespan/support (maybe not Xbox because I imagine developers will ditch Xbox Series much sooner than PS5 due to Series S's requirement).

A PS5 is far, far cheaper than an equivalent PC here in Brazil as well.

The digital version usually goes on sales for less than R$ 3000 (bundled with 2 games), and that is pretty accessible compared to the R$ 5000 it was at release.

Switch 2 is far more expensive than the PS5 here right now, as it's R$ 4500.

I would say at least a 7/10 but leaning more towards 8/10.

Sony's blockbuster titles are still in a league of their own for me. Ragnarok, Miles Morales, Rift Apart, HFW and SpiderMan 2 were all phenomenal experiences. Sony goes above and beyond in accessibility options and performance modes. I've seen the 40 FPS light lol! I rave about the Dualsense all the time and I'm glad developers are supporting it. Not everything is going to feel like Astro Bot or Returnal, but for the most part I've enjoyed the adaptive triggers and haptic feedback in most games.

There's just so much more to play on PS5 compared to PS4. The PlayStation Plus revamp is much more enticing than PlayStation Now ever was. Not to mention getting classic Xbox franchises like Gears and Forza for the first time ever on a PlayStation platform. And Sony is practically finding new developers in different parts of Asia with stuff like Stellar Blade, Lost Souls Aside, and Phantom Blade Zero hitting the platform.

A solid 8/10.

Enjoying their first and third party games. Building up a backlog already.

Just a general experience as a whole its the best because it's just been smooth and everything loads much faster and doesn't sound like a jet.

That isn't really the case for PC with all the viral hits coming out exclusively on the platform. Just this year there's R.E.P.O. and Schedule I both being in the top 3 best selling games on Steam so far for 2025. A lot of games like that coming out only on PC has to be a big reason why the platform is much more popular with kids now compared to a decade ago.

I didn't hear of these titles, you think they're permanent exclusives? Consoles have an absolutely massive active playerbase and many games still sell better on them, would be dumb af to skip them altogether in today's climate no matter how cool and popular PC is among kids.

They were big streamer games for a while and it was said during the SGF showcase that the former has already sold over 13 million since February. They probably won't be permanent but big hits like that coming out there first still matters a lot and even if it's not fully exclusive them always coming to PC right away is a really big deal. Like from October 2023 through February 2024 you had games like Lethal Company, Palworld and Helldivers 2 and PC had all three right away while Xbox and Playstation only had 1 each at the time.

I'm not saying games like this should skip consoles, just pointing out the importance of viral games being increasingly PC dominant. People talk about exclusivity a lot but not enough about that aspect I feel since it's a huge factor in why exclusivity still benefits the platform a lot more than Playstation and especially Xbox.

If PC loses the exclusivity to iconic games that define it, then the identity takes a hit similar to when God of War, Spider-Man, The Last of Us etc are no longer tied to Playstation. That these games are super popular on PC is beside the point. Sony's games generally sell a lot better on Playstation than on PC despite the latter's huge install base advantage. This doesn't change the fact that PC players do have access to them without the need to pay for a console.

PC, PS5, and Xbox are very similar platforms as far as relevant games. If you own one of them, you will have access to the vast majority of relevant games.

PC sells great and keeps gaining popularity because modern consoles hardly offer anything it can't do. So unlike Nintendo consoles, a strong "identity" is not really needed. People just want to play good games, and PC is in a lot of ways the best place to play them.
