The quantity and quality of this generation are both very high, will probably end up higher than the last generation by a decent margin. The main weakness of PS, PC, and most of all Xbox, is that they are losing their identity due to lack of big exclusives. The other weakness is diminishing returns and game engines taking too long (or failing) to meaningfully take advantage of the powerful hardware. The plus side is that these platforms will have a VERY long lifespan/support (maybe not Xbox because I imagine developers will ditch Xbox Series much sooner than PS5 due to Series S's requirement). |
That isn't really the case for PC with all the viral hits coming out exclusively on the platform. Just this year there's R.E.P.O. and Schedule I both being in the top 3 best selling games on Steam so far for 2025. A lot of games like that coming out only on PC has to be a big reason why the platform is much more popular with kids now compared to a decade ago.
