Perhaps it's just a sign of the times we live in, but I've never seen anything like the relentless campaign of hate and misinformation thrown at Switch 2 over the last two months at any previous console launch. Not even Wii U, Xbox One, or PS3 got bashed this viciously.
It got to the point where people were being attacked and mocked online just for buying one or even being excited for it.
Very gratifying to see all the hate fail miserably.
Yeah, I believe NDS is real for seome people. I don't understand why people should care so much about an ecosystem they are not a part of and most likely never will be.
There's also an opposite condition called NFS(Nintendo Fanboy Syndrome), which is equally annoying and delusional.

Indeed, curl. Indeed.
@pokoko may deny that it all happened, but it's hilarious that LegitHyperbole posted right after him.
Legend11 correctly predicted that GTA IV will outsell Super Smash Bros. Brawl. I was wrong.
Going to be interesting to see how Minecraft goes on Switch 2 when a version optimised for Switch 2 releases.
Also I feel like xbox one got a fair amount of hate, but a lot was directed at the people in charge of Xbox doing strange things and then secondarily the under-powered GPU.

Those strange things included a mandatory Kinect 2 that added an extra hundred bucks to the price and mandatory online connection (that required a mandatory Xbox Live subscription) at launch. Not to mention that it originally wasn't going to allow owners to share games or buy used ones. All of that hate was warranted.
$90 $80 Mario Kart really sent some people off the deep end.

Some people just have an axe to grind with Nintendo, and I see two main camps. The people tend to say...
1. Nintendo makes weak hardware and stuff I've never really been interested in. Their prices are outrageous and they're so greedy and I want them to fail.
2. Nintendo has made a lot of systems I love but lost a lot of their magic with Switch and has gotten greedier than ever with Switch and Switch 2. I want to buy their hardware and some of the games but not until the content and price changes.
Number 2 seems to be less common because I cannot fathom viewing even 3DS+Wii U combined as a better generation than Switch. Of course, Switch isn't perfect and has perhaps even more Anti-consumer choices than 3DS+Wii U but the staggering number of games to play on Switch is evident. And the hardware itself is more appealing than Wii U and it's a hybrid. 3DS does still have some advantages as a pure handheld even when compared to Switch Lite.
Nintendo apparently treats their employees very well in terms of pay, work-life balance, etc. Admittedly they go nuclear on fan mods, IP protection and the like.
I don't see Nintendo as one of the evilest corporations in gaming or the world as a whole, but they have done plenty of immoral things.
Lifetime Sales Predictions
Switch: 161 million (was 73 million, then 96 million, then 113 million, then 125 million, then 144 million, then 151 million, then 156 million)
PS5: 122 million (was 105 million, then 115 million) Xbox Series X/S: 38 million (was 60 million, then 67 million, then 57 million. then 48 million. then 40 million)
Switch 2: 120 million (was 116 million)
PS4: 120 mil (was 100 then 130 million, then 122 million) Xbox One: 51 mil (was 50 then 55 mil)
3DS: 75.5 mil (was 73, then 77 million)

The reality is that everything costs more now than it did 5+ years ago due to inflation, and Nintendo is not immune to that. If they were charging like $599 for it that'd be one thing, but $450 isn't unreasonable for what you get and the current economic circumstances. |
Yes. I'm sure there is a profitability metric that accounts for inflation, and my guess is that Switch 2 is significantly more profitable for Nintendo than the first Switch by that metric. If I recall correctly, the launch price of Switch 2 is higher than that of the first Switch, even when accounting for inflation. That's probably because of extra power, higher profits, or both, and until there's data to support another view, my guess is that there's a significant amount of higher profits there. Of course it's just a guess based on my hunch of the trends of luxury electronics, where prices just keep increasing despite past trends of decreasing prices. I strongly suspect that Nintendo is opportunistically following this trend. I'd love to research this more, but ultimately I don't care enough. I might get a Switch 2 once I get my backlog to a point where it makes sense, but it doesn't mean I'm happy about its price.

Thanks for reminding me. So much misinformation is fueled by outlets trying to get a story before there even IS a story.
Also here's an idiot tiktoker blowing his top over it. https://www.youtube.com/shorts/sQpoTJzAP_M
