Forums - Nintendo - Nintendo Switch 2 day one buyer discussion thread.

Switch 2 will be...

A success 59 83.10%

A disaster 2 2.82%

Somewhere in the middle. 10 14.08%

Total:71

Mario Kart World will sell out for sure. Every single person I was in line with at Gamestop (there were about 100 people) all were going for Mario Kart lol.

Sadly it being $80 will likely push the $$$ value of how much they made and will likely lead to $80 becoming more of a standard with other iterations or other games.

Strangely, Nintendo stock was down today 1.57%. I don't know if it means anything but I do know that investors are very sharp and quick to react to to things like, product reception and anticipated sales etc. I think it really could've benefitted from a killer app like the Switch 1 had at launch (Zelda BOTW).

Mario Kart World is the killer app, what are you talking about?

Edit: it seems I was late with my reply, so I'll elaborate. Mario Kart World is the sequel to the best selling Switch (and Wii U) game, and also

  • Mario Kart 7 is the best-selling 3DS game
  • Mario Kart Wii is the 2nd best-selling Wii game
  • Mario Kart DS is the 3rd best-selling DS game

If history is anything to go by, this game being a 'killer app' is not even up to debate.

I know they've been very successful. My intention wasn't to put down down MKW or other Mario Karts. I think I should've just said that to me personally MKW doesn't look like the killer app Zelda BOTW was. All I meant is that it doesn't look revolutionary, but maybe it doesn't need to be. Like I said the sales will speak for themselves and that's what makes VGChartz so great.

I think MKW is a different kind of killer app. We know Mario Kart will be good. People pretty much love every iteration of it. Zelda on the other hand needed a big change. Twilight Princess and Skyward Sword just felt like the same old thing(at least to some of us)

It almost feels like a distant memory when the Zelda franchise never had a single release reach the 10 million sales mark until Breath of the Wild. Zelda was never really "killer app" material for decades.

True. Hope Metroid Prime 4 will do the same for that franchise. It needs more love. Dread sold pretty damn well though.

Twilight Princess was my favorite Zelda up until I played BotW.

BotW pushed all the right buttons and checked all the boxes it needed to be a success.

Skyward Sword was okay but I personally found the wireless controls and some questionable choices frustrating.

From having to recalibrate my Wiimote+ every now and then and Fi telling me to take a rest (in the middle of a boss battle - "I think you should take a rest!")

Yeah, if Mario Kart World is not a trainwreck being the next Mario Kart game is enough for it to be a killer app.

Not every game needs to be a revolution to be considered a system seller.

Oh, have you returned to Twilight Princess since? With thr remaster or anything? It is so much better than BoTW. I'm odd though, I think it's better the OoT 😉

Okay, I'm actually jealous of Switch 2 owners right now and there is nothing on the system thst is a must play for me. Watching people's hype for it is rubbing off, I'm filled with other people's excitement.

No I have not.

I played TP on Gamecube back in 2007 and BotW on WiiU back in 2017.

OoT I played on N64 as a rental back in the early 2000s but I didnt actually own it or play it completely from start to finish until 2017 when I played the 3DS Remake, its in my top 5 alongside BotW , MM, LttP and TP.
