Well, that's an added reason.
The main reasons we already know are
1. Uncertain global economic conditions which especially impact physical games, hardware, etc.
2. Switch and Mario Kart 8 Deluxe are insanely popular and profitable, so it's a game Nintendo knows they can risk charging 80 USD for.
Lifetime Sales Predictions
Switch: 161 million (was 73 million, then 96 million, then 113 million, then 125 million, then 144 million, then 151 million, then 156 million)

Switch 2: 120 million (was 116 million)
PS4: 120 mil (was 100 then 130 million, then 122 million) Xbox One: 51 mil (was 50 then 55 mil)

They will charge the maximum the market will handle.
Even if they charged only $40 USD, they would still make billions in profit from this one game.
But why not make more?

It's simple economics. Nintendo will charge whatever the hell the consumer is ready to pay for. Which is also the reason why we didn't get budget games in the switch era. People just kept buying the games at their original prices, so there was never a need to lower the price.
Sure, development cost, tariffs, inflation and all that are part of en explanation for higher prices. But at the end of the day, it comes down to the principle that everything is worth what the purchaser will pay for it. Even old Syrus knew that way back in 50 BC.
Apple could sell the iPhone 16 Pro for 500 bucks and still make truckloads of money just because of the sheer volume they are selling. But they choose to charge double of that or even more depending on the model. Not because of inflation or because of their development cost but simply because people pay for it. I mean, just look at the early days of the 3DS with harsh price cuts, the Ambassador program and all. Nintendo sure as hell can lower the prices. But why the hell would they right now?
So if 80 USD or 90 Euros is too high, you will see Mario Kart World go down in price in no time. If the price tag actually is too high remains to be seen for now.

This is the N64 cart fiasco all over again. N64 carts cost $10 to make, which made N64 games cost $60 vs PS1's $50. Switch 2 carts cost $16 to make. $64 + $16 is $80.
The real reason why it's so expensive is because it's so cheap. Nintendo is giving the game away for $50 in the USA and only €40 in Europe when people purchase the hardware bundle, so they are going to make up for it by charging a bit more for the standalone version. That's all there is to it.
Legend11 correctly predicted that GTA IV will outsell Super Smash Bros. Brawl. I was wrong.

Don't mention the $50 digital pack-in! I need to remain outraged! Also don't mention that all companies will brick your system if you hack the device. I need to remain outraged! OUTRAGGGGGEEDDDDDD!!!
If there was some special reason for this game being so expensive, it would be the only game at that price rage. So as soon as there is another, there goes this hypothesis.
Personally, I just think it's cold-hard business. They think they can get more money from us. Time will tell if that was a good idea.
