Forums - Nintendo - Nintendo details free Switch 2 updates coming to several Switch 1 games

I'm more interested in the improvements that any Switch game will have by just running on a Switch 2. Nintendo pretty much confirmed we should expect some upgrades if the game has room for it (dynamic resolutions, fluctuating framerates, loading times, etc).

Same.

I'm likely gonna stick to MK World and will play through the Switch games I didnt play accordingly to the list they have now.

The only one I have played that is on the list is Super Mario Odyssey which I was planning to play again.

I have the exact same plan + Deltarune 3+4

I expect some of the more obvious omissions like Pikmin 4 will probably receive their own dedicated Switch 2 version with additional content, sort of like Kirby and the Forgotten Land, or what they did with Mario 3D World + Bowser's Fury on Switch 1. Wouldn't be surprised to see Definitive Editions of Xenoblade 2/3 either.

It's also possible that just by virtue of having more system resources, games may run at the high end of their fps/resolution range on Switch 2.

Yes. Last gen a lot of games already had variable resolution. So they would profit from a faster system. Also the times that fps are fixed to some system clocks are long gone, so frame rate dips below the locked frame rate will be less common with better hardware.

I need Xenoblade Chronicles X getting a free update, I haven't started it cos I was assuming the Switch 2 version will run/look better

Games like NEO: The World Ends With You will potentially benefit greatly from this. Dynamic resolution on docked mode (832-964p), unlocked framerate that usually hangs on the 40s and slightly annoying loading times. It's the complete pack xD

I wonder how often they will release updates (paid or free) for the rest of the library.

Luigi's Mansion 3 at 4K 60 FPS would make me want to play it again just for that.

Yeah games like say Xenoblade 2/3 could benefit greatly from being fixed to their maximum resolution for instance.

Footage of Pokemon Scarlet/Violet updated for Switch 2:

Might finally be worth a look for those who found the Switch 1 release unacceptably poor

God I'm so used to seeing SV being really choppy and sometimes running effectively in slow motion that seeing it run decently smoothly feels strange. It's kinda like seeing footage from a film shot at 48fps.
