Just want to say as someone around since the Game and Watch and the Gameboy era it's mind blowing these are the type of comparisons we have on portable devices now seriously this deserves some kind of industry retrospective in itself.

A few hours long retrospective on YouTube will likely exist soon enough (if it already doesn't) hahaha.

Even I, coming from the GBA era, this is mind boggling that we came around to this kind of results in about less than 2 decades.

Switch Friend Code : 3905-6122-2909

Yeah I remember having my mind blown by Metroid Prime Hunters on DS in 2005 cos seeing 3D graphics on a handheld felt so futuristic.

In those two decades since we've gone from this

To this

Crazy stuff.

another key card game, hard pass.

Are you screwed if you already bought the game on Switch? I haven't, but I'm curious.

Switch 2 version is separate from the Switch 1 version.

No free upgrades or minimum payment as far as I know

WB doesnt have a history of doing that so likely fully priced and a separate entry in library.

Thanks for doing the research for me! Some people out there would grill me for daring to ask a question or to make a joke about something that could be answered by spending time elsewhere on the Internet. I'm glad that you realize that this is a forum where we come for discussion and socialization, not to try turn everything into a dick measuring contest.

That being said, this makes me think twice about acquiring certain Switch games for the rest of the console's lifecycle for fear of buying an inferior version and wind up in a dilemma to decide whether to stick with it or get the improved version on a newer console. Why, it would be like getting a game billed as the total remake of an beloved classic, only for a newer version with an uncommon word in the title to come out on a newer console, and not knowing what to do with it!

I was referring to personal experience; I never saw a PSP in action til some years later.

Still though, the leap is gargantuan.

Heck, in my lifetime this is what portable gaming looked like:

Someone's gotta do the research to make up for your lack of effort in doing so :)

Hogwarts for Switch 1 is its own specific version like how there were specific releases of certain games like Sonic Colors on 3DS, Sonic Generations on 3DS, etc

Hogwarts for Switch 2 is basically the exact port of the other console versions.

As for third party titles specifically from SEGA/Atlus , its the main reason why I never buy them day 1 because there's usually a better version of said game that will come out (i.e. Shin Megami Tensei V - > Shin Megami Tensei Vengeance).

They are the worst.

No upgrade path from Persona 5 (PS4 without "Pro Enhancements") to Persona 5 Royal (PS4 with "Pro Enhancements").
No upgrade path from Persona 5 Royal (PS4) to Persona 5 Royal (PS5).

You can upgrade the Switch 1 version apparently for $10, rather than having to buy the whole thing again:
