Forums - Sony - (Some) PS1 games bought on PS3 can be downloaded on PS4/5 for free

Ahoy!

If you paid for digital PS1 games on the PS3, and those games are in the PS5 classics catalouge, you can download them for free, even without PS+.

I don't think many people know about this, so I made a quick 3 minute guide on how to do it.  Some of the games require going into the extra options on the store page for them to show up as free downloads.

I downloaded for free (well actually I already paid for them in 2008!):

  • Jumping Flash
  • Tekken 2
  • Ridge Racer Type 4
  • Oddworld
  • Rally Cross
  • G-Police
  • Everybodies Golf 2
  • Grandia

It also works with PSP games too!

This has been known for quite some time actually. Also, add Legend of Dragoon and Wild Arms 1 and 2 to your list.

I played Harvest Moon Back to the Nature on PS5 1 year ago, and I bought the game on PS3.

I've always wanted Wolfenstien back. Still waiting on that one.

Yes, I got LoD for free on PS4 and PS5 day one when it dropped years ago.

In my video guide I showed that Wild Arms is only £3.99 on the PS3 store right now, so people should buy it there instead of on the PS5 where it is £7.99.

So anyone that wants it because they don't have it yet, buy it on the PS3; it's cheaper and it carries over!

Is there a complete list somewhere?

Keep waiting, because the game was never released on PS1, so there's no PS1 version you could get to play on PS4/PS5. There is a PS3 release, but it's exactly that: a PS3 version instead of a PS1 game. Of course that's unless you were talking about some other Wolfenstein game, but it would be kind of strange in a thread about PS1 games (obviously Wolfenstein 3D is the only one that could possibly run on PS1, but it was never released for it).

• Wild Arms 2

• Ape Escape

• Hot Shots Golf

• I.Q. Intelligence Qube

• Worms World Party

• Worms Armageddon

• Alone in the Dark: The New Nightmare

• MediEvil

• Cool Boarders

• The Legend of Dragoon

• Twisted Metal

• Twisted Metal 2

• Harvest Moon: Back to Nature

• Resident Evil Director's Cut

• Grandia

Nope. I bought the original game on PSN on PS3 for sure but I guess you're right, It was only on PS3. Pity that digital Ps3 games didn't come forward.

Waiting for Breath of Fire IV as thats the only Classic title I bought on PS3.
