Forums - Sales - 2.2 million people applied for the Switch 2 preorder lottery on the Japanese My Nintendo store alone

Switch 2 will be the next WiiU confirmed!!

Sounds like the Switch 2 will do just fine.

It's going to be very chaotic when somebody will figure out how to hack the Switch2 and put non-Japanese language on there. Followed by masses of exports of the Japan only priced model.

If Nintendo and Nvidia has learned any lessons from what happened on Switch 1, it should take years for the security to be breached on the Switch 2.

The immediate future for the Switch 2 in Japan seems most likely secured to me.
We're likely looking at a full first year or two of scolding out issues (again)

Japan really wants Switch 2 and the market is better suited for it right now than the USA.
I do think it's possible for Switch 2 to crack 100 million units and have Japan as the biggest region. Japan's Switch total is only a few million behind all of Europe.
Switch 2 could be up gen on gen from Switch, or at the very least a higher percentage. I don't think North America or Europe will be as good for Switch 2 as they were for Switch.

To be eligible to even apply for the lottery you apparently have to not only have an NSO membership, but you also have to have 50+ hours played and have had NSO for at least a year, so this isn't even open to all customers.

For comparison's sake, the Switch sold 313k consoles in its first week, according to Famitsu.

My guess numbers will be up a little :)

It'll be interesting to see some more numbers coming in from other parts of the world. Right now the rumours are looking good.

I describe myself as a little dose of toxic masculinity.

I just realized that Nintendo's strategy to combat the scalpers with different pricing is actually just plain stupid. Now, Japanese and other people can buy the Japanese only version and super scalp them to Japanese customers. Nintendo themselves gives you a good profit margin. Buy it for 50,000 yen then resell it to a willing Japanese customer for 70,000 yen, the same price as the international version. It will probably be sold out for months or years.

This 2.2m is probably part of that demand for scalping.

I mean, those 2,2 million include only people who fulfilled the NSO and gametime requirements and then it only secures you 1 spot in the lottery for 1 system.

That‘s not really efficient for scalping at all and actually points to this being genuine demand for the most part.

Now, will this generate MORE demand as lotteries open at general retailers and scalpers try to get in on the launch? For sure. But the demand is shaping up to be huge, even without scalping.
