I'll probably keep my Switch OLED at least for a while and for some comparisons... maybe even until a Switch 2 OLED arrives in a few years.

I don't want to clutter the new handheld instantly with my digital Switch library, so I'm planning to only install Switch 1 games on the Switch 2 with enhancements... especially as long as the microSD Express cards are that expensive.

But keeping two Switches active creates a new problem... which of them will be set as the primary console and which has to be the secondary console?

One of them will get problems to access my digital library when I'm not at home. So I probably keep my Switch OLED at first as primary, because I have soooo many eShop SW1 games on them which won't get Switch2 enhancements. On the other side, all of my SW1 games, where enhancements are announced, are physical cartridges.

But it's only a matter of time when I get some digital SW2 games or some of my digital SW1 games get enhancements. The bundled Mario Kart World will already be my first digital SW2 game... and if I'm honest I'll probably ignore my unenhanced SW1 library as soon as I play the new and enhanced games... so better set the Switch 2 as primary console?

Or is the best solution to create a new Nintendo account for the Switch 2? Then I could set the primary console for my new account to the Switch 2 and leave the primary console of my current account on my Switch OLED. Then add my old account as secondary on the Switch 2 and add my new account as secondary on my Switch OLED. Any downsides for that solution?

OG Switch (2020 upgraded battery model) - perma docked for first party and exclusive third party titles, will be retiring.

Switch OLED (2024) - using it to play third party multiplats when I'm at work or traveling, will continue even after getting Switch 2.

My Switch 2 will be perma docked

I'll get a Switch 2 OLED when they make it in a few years for portable play.

Backwards compatibility is the biggest decider for me on whether or not I'll keep a previous gen console. Thankfully, I've confirmed my entire Switch library is back compat, so my Switch 1 will be traded in.

You called down the thunder, now reap the whirlwind

I will be using my Switch 2 permadock and my Switch Oled for portable gaming.

34 years playing games.

GameStop will give you up to $90 credit for a standard switch! That means you can get one game and have $10 left!

GameStop really do suck don't they lol. CeX give a minimum of £120 here.

I'll just throw my Switch Lite into a drawer or something when I get a Switch 2 lol.

I don't think I've ever sold a console after getting a new one.

Gift to a friend or family member who can't afford

But only in 2027 though

I will definitely keep it, like every previous Nintendo Console. It's part of me. It's my legacy and I'm proud of keeping it in my collection. Of course there is an issue with space, but I think I m gonna solve it.

Since I don't plan to upgrade until I see how things go, I plan to stick with my Switch for many more years.

You know it deserves the GOTY.

I won't be buying Switch 2 nor do I use my Switch 1 much, about 5% of game time this year and I wouldn't have gamed on it at all if I wasn't checking sale prices for Bayonetta 2. I don't feel like selling it just for one reason, it's the only place, bar pulling out my Wii, where I can play Super Mario Bros 3. That alone for me is worth keeping it and worth paying for a year of NSO. I have a good few indie games on there like Dusk and Steam World dig that but if I'm getting an indie game these days I tend to play in PS for the trophies. It has a one other good use though, if I get bed ridden sick or need a stay in Hospital, it'll be there in that scenario I'd kick myself for selling it.
