In France retailers are now putting the console a 439€ instead of 469€ for preorders. Signs that the numbers are not what they expected? Retailers also have started to put Mario kart at 69€ and Donkey Kong at 59€. |
This is just what French retailers do. When the rest of the Euro (€) countries got the original Switch for €329, it was sold for €299 in France right from the start. What you are witnessing is that MSRPs are not binding, so retailers can undercut the MSRP as they see fit. Which is exactly what they've done before, hence why you could buy new physical releases on Switch for €55 or less despite their MSRPs being €59.99.
The digital prices for games will be what Nintendo has announced, but the price for physical games will vary. This is why I've said that freaking out over the physical prices is premature, because retailers aren't bound to charge what Nintendo suggests. Heck, most of the reason for Nintendo adding €10 to the MSRP for physical games in comparison to their digital counterparts might be that it was so common that retailers shaved off €10 during the latter half of the generation; so in other words, it's in part a measure to make digital and physical cost the same in the real world.
And naturally, the offers for physical games will probably get better as the generation progresses.
