Allow me to attempt to explain:

From what I can tell, the virtual game card aims to replace the current (and rather convoluted) system of primary and secondary consoles, where the secondary console can play digital games from the primary console, but only with a persistent internet connection and only if the primary console isn't also playing digital games.

With the Virtual Game Cards, you can instead share digital games between consoles by "ejecting" and "loading" the virtual cards. As such, a virtual game card is available on only one console at a time. An Internet connection is required when ejecting and loading virtual cards, but not when playing the games. This is ultimately the main difference with the current system. Virtual game cards can be shared between consoles that are linked to your Nintendo account, and consoles that are linked to accounts part of your family group. When lending to accounts that are part of your family group, there exists a 14 day time-limit, after which the virtual card is automatically returned.

That’s not how it works. If account A is tied to console A, and you bought a game using account A, you can play the game any time you want on any account on console A and secondary consoles consoles with account A. There is no restriction to playing the game at the same time So account B on console A and account A on console B can play the same game at the same time. No persistent Internet connection is necessary.

This isn't correct. Console B will still require an internet connection to let Account A play games for which Console A is the primary system.

But for what it's worth, the fine print has already confirmed that an opt-out exist, so the old system will remain as well.

Prime 4 is giving major Halo 4 shades with that setting. More convinced than ever this is a Switch 1 game only. Why not wait for the Switch 2 direct to show it if there was a S2 version?  And also the game looks like it would need a major graphics upgrade as a S2 title beyond just boosted performance bc it looks pretty dated graphically if we’re being honest. Like I feel like that would do way more harm than good for the system’s rep having a game that looks like that on S2 at launch.

Cool to see Nintendo commited to supporting Switch 1 well after S2 launch though. I was legit shocked at a new Rhythm Heaven for Switch for next year. This is pretty unprecedented territory for the company that loves to abandon their hardware a solid year or more before a new system.

Somebody will have to explain to me the appeal of Tomodachi Life because it looks like crap to me but it's somehow big enough to be the final announcement of the direct.

A small group of people's obsession with Mii like characters is louder than the majority who dont care.

Not sure what you mean with "small group". Tomodachi Life is a legit million seller. These types of games are very popular with casual gamers especially.

In comparison to other IPs that would often end a Direct I mean (i.e. Mario, Pokemon, Zelda, etc)

Actually a great Direct, I'm impressed. Didn't think Nintendo still had so much to show off for the Switch.

Patapon and DQ I&II 2D-HD will be certain buys, Tomodachi and Story of Seasons for my wife, and Marvel and Metroid probably for later down the line.

For me, this would get a letter grade of a C. There was cool stuff but very little for me to be hyped about (not into Metroid).
On a curve, it would be about a B. A system this old with its successor already announced and about to get a huge Direct is still getting some support beyond the bare minimum.
I predicted a new Rhythm Heaven for over a year now. I'm not surprised it's coming, but I'm surprised it's not coming until 2026 despite being announced already with footage.
It's all but guaranteed to be a Q1 2026 to add more games to a likely quieter time of the year for Nintendo releases.

So much so for the rumored Kirby and Fire Emblem games ...

But actually there were sections of it I liked, the Rhythm announcement and the ending was a decent ender although not to my taste.

Definitely feels like they've kept the big ammunitions for next week.
Although Metroid Prime 4 showcased was pretty big all things considered but it kinda felt ... Muted in a sense ?
Like shouldn't this have been the opener or last trailer ?

I'm waiting to be proven wrong next week, but I think it's getting a release date and announced as cross-gen during the Switch 2 Direct.

exactly what I was thinking. My theory is MP4 will be the big launch title, hence why they’re hiding the release date.
