Forums - Nintendo - Nintendo Switch 2 Direct

That was overall a nice direct but not great like I was hoping for with it being such a big one. The Switch 2 looks like a fantastic upgrade over the Switch with stuff like the screen being 1080p 120fps and third party support is gonna be strong right away as expected though first party stuff felt a bit lacking with no 3D Mario and various details like the price not being shown isn't ideal. That has seemingly got revealed elsewhere though and it is on the higher side so that'll help the Switch 1 and hurt the Switch 2 somewhat. And I'm glad the launch is just a couple months away, was hoping for May but I'll take early June so that month is gonna be better than usual for gaming this year.

Also both Deltarune and Silksong getting shown was a nice surprise though until I get a release date I'm not really expecting the latter to actually come out this year.

I was expecting a bit more first-party titles but this was a solid line-up (if we forget about the PAID tech demo!!!). Donkey Kong Bananza looks really great! Loving the June release date, two short months!

The paid tec demo is an insult lol, who is paying for that?

The Good
-Mario Kart World
-Resolution and 120hz
-Boosted Switch games
-Game Chat
-Third-party support
-Donkey Kong
-Kirby Air Riders
-June 5 Release Date
-Other things I haven't mentioned
The Bad
-Technical issues during the livestream
-Not mentioning the price during Nintendo Direct. It will be $449.99 here in the USA. Why hide that? I wonder if it would've been $399.99 without tariffs but on the other hand it's packed with tech.
-No 3D Mario. Look, I'm thrilled DK is getting a long overdue game. But Odyssey is a masterpiece and there's been no new 3D Mario game in about 7.5 years. Bowser's Fury was something, but it's not a full game. I'm hopeful it could still launch this year given that DK is already out shortly after launch and there's a ton of time for Mario to get announced and launch between October to December. If not, hopefully the first half of 2026 (November 2026 at the absolute latest).
-Charging for the tech demo. I doubt it will be any more involved than Astro's Playroom and that was included with PS5.

I would also throw in Nintendo starting to charge $80 for some physical games a Bad as well.

Okay. They have my attention for sure. Mario Kart alone is WOW, that might top Crash Team Racing. Looks like they have taken pages out of CTR and listened to why people prefer that game. I like that the only image quality issue with Nintendo is resolution. The Joy vons being bigger is great, the only thing about the console itself is still no horizontal dock and it's slightly oversized in portable, like a inch or so, they are really pushing the boundary with it and the inside glass bezel is even worse now cause it's not an even bezel all around but all definitely upgraded, stand looks so solid now. Features shown so far are great like HDR which I need and 3d audio which is great on PS5 but some I'd not be using like the c buttons is irrelevant to me and no fast charging still, still have some time left to go on the stream.

That might be the problem, really.

Remember Super Metroid and how the N64 didn't get any Metroid game? Super Metroid was simply such a tough act to follow that nobody dared to make a successor until Metroid Prime came around.

Screenshot from Nintendo Store, they are giving a discount for digital titles, don't know if they did that before with switch 1? But what are those prices???? Does Nintendo charge more than other retailers or is MK World Going to be £75/$80 for a physical copy??? Is the faster read speed cartridges to blame?

Is there any confirmation of 80 USD for physical games? This is a steep increase in price

Or maybe is it just an american thing because of tarrifs?

Digital will still be $70.

Big yikes for that

UKphysical copy for MK is £75 it looks like they are charging an extra $10 for physical compared to digital. So $70 games are $80 physical and $60 games like DK are $70 physical.

Must be the new cartridges cost a lot to make. They have to be fast to run well without being installed to the internal storage but this is rough if this is going to be the case going forward.
