I'll likely wait until all DLC is available and pick up on one of the sales.

Their games always ha d micro transactions but it's optional m it's never pay to win which shows the person is trolling.. you have to grind to get the good stuff which is what games should be about . Mainly quoting this so the video will show up in the thread again but relative to that, I just watched Mortismal's review. He is absolutely one of the most positive, non-political reviewers on Youtube and rarely rates anything worse than a "wait for a sale" but he gave Shadows a straight "not recommended". For reference, he liked Starfield and Veilguard well enough. Two elements he seemed to dislike a lot in Shadows were the pay-to-progress micro-transactions and the melee combat of the samurai path. He said that Yasuke was basically an unstoppable killing machine and the combat was boring. He also disliked that most of the "rpg" elements were pretty much meaningless. To be fair, he had a ton of technical issues with the review build, which might have been fixed with the first patch. It really sounds like Ubisoft tried to cram a bunch of stuff into the game that just made it feel watered-down instead. |
If it's anything like Odyssey, the grinding wasn't organic video game grinding, but we will give you so little that you will want to buy EXP/Money from MTX to get it faster. I doubt Ubisoft has improved on that.

Imagine being an adult and actually typing out something like "Asswithmold" without feeling stupid.

They don't work in order anymore, after they killed Desmond all that went out the window by design. You can tackle any game you want and you won't miss a beat or at least that's the way I believe it to be, with very light Assassin's/Templar lore that means very little of anything.

I enjoy them, and also his streams.
I watched him play AC for a few hours (he has a 4,5hour video of his stream up).
I was not expecting an AC game to be near the top of the best looking console games list half way into a gen, I've seen some footage of both large scale and small scale environments that are mind blowing abd all without the usual shit upscaling problems and image quality issues and very few bugs. I particularly love when Naoe rolls into a small village and things get tight, the way the environment is scaled, sort of realistically but also Fantasy like and the direction they went with that, of course ancient Japan is going to have old villages with moss cobbled roads and nature will be ahead of the citizens who are focused on farming and not always look pristine as it is so often presented. There is TLC in this title, in the details and the thought put into building those details that you can feel passion seeping in, something they haven't been able to express with the modern games that felt as if they were made on a factory assembly line.

If nothing else, Ubisoft knows how to make their games look pretty.

ASSWITHMOLD
Holy SHIT
Also, I am now ten hours into the game. I stand by what I said about the graphics. The weather and wind effects are incredible. Was in a rainstorm earlier, the wind and rain and thunder were incredible.
Gameplay is AC. They’ve added some new things I don’t care for like scouting. Other things like knowledge level I appreciate, another way to help level up and provide meaningful rewards for exploring and doing side content. Idk if the knowledge level is new or not.
Ive seen a few people complaining about the store, I haven’t even visited it yet and haven’t felt pushed to do so.
