Soon we will know, even if they keep a significant mechanic hidden, like they did the capture mechanic in odyssey hidden until later.

Slownenberg said: First off, if 3D Mario isn't a launch day game that is a huge blunder for Nintendo. Nintendo needs to always launch with either 3D Zelda or 3D Mario, if all they've got is MK9 at launch that is a fail. So I expect we'll be playing the next Mario game in like 3 months. |
We really need 2 3D Mario games on Switch 2. Wii had the Galaxy games, and they are masterpieces.
Switch has a 3D Mario game, a compilation of ports of the first 3D Mario games, and an enhanced port with a new campaign under 10 hours. So that's about 1.25-1.33 or so 3D Mario games in terms of new content.
If Mario Kart is a launch day title, I don't see it as a blunder to not have 3D Mario the same day. I'd rather have 3D Mario come out a month to 6 months later after launch if it needs it. But of course, I hope it's ready at launch.
