Forums - Gaming Discussion - What's the best VR game you ever played?

I never played a VR game, but I really want to.

So, for people who got a PSVR, or a Meta Quest, or any Steam VR device, what's the best VR game you played so far?

Played a couple of VR games and neither was exclusive. GT7 and RE8. They are both phenomenal experiences comparable to moving from 2D to 3D in the 90's, with the caveat being adjusting to VR, which unfortunately I couldn't. Too nauseating and disorientating for me. And my increasing minimalism is another obstacle, I HATE having too many devices scattered around.

But I do intend to try VR again if I move to a bigger house. I'll be sure to take it slow next time and use it in winter lol.

RE8 for sure. Incredibly immersive due to the excellent HDR lighting and detail on PSVR2. Astrobot Rescue Mission was the game to beat (PSVR1) and RE8 does it with full VR controls, VR cut scenes and places that feel real.

But beware, village of the damned (highest difficulty) may give you a heart attack...

GT7 is also very immersive, driving around the Nordschleife has never felt this good.

Subside is a diving simulator which works perfect in VR since it already kinda feels like wearing a dive helmet... The game uses the current negatives as a strength, limited fov is your dive helmet, you can't see that far ahead under water, hides the low resolution feeling of the background / display.

The best game to start VR with is Moss 1+2. It's amazing with minimal movement to get your VR legs. It all plays out in diorama's in front of you, you can lean in, look around and manipulate some items while guiding a mouse around with the analog sticks. (action puzzle platformer)

Even though I liked RE8 very much, I absolutely loved GT7. I played psvr1 before, but the jump to psvr2 and driving in GT7 was mind blowing. If you want to feel the rush and the adrenaline but also the serenity of driving around with a super car, racing others at break neck speeds, without spending hundreds of thousands of dollars on acutal cars, try GT7 in PSVR2.

Half Life Alyx is the only one I’ve played and I can’t imagine it getting much better.

Half-Life: Alyx, but that's PC exclusive.

I would definitely suggest something lighter to ease you in at first, either Moss 1/2 if you're OK with diorama alike puzzle platformer (some folks, like my son, don't recognize this as "proper" VR experience, since it's not first person) or something like Arizona Sunshine for some fun FPS zombie brain blasting (this is what I used to showcase VR to newcomers back in days).

Never played VR as well, the difference is that I also still don't want to.

Either we reach SAO levels of immersion or I feel like I'll never even care.

Some 10 or so years ago, we had Oculus Rift DK1 at work, so that's where I've tried VR for the first time...it was great, I was instantly hooked, but I had such a bad case of motion sickness after trying it for the first time that I didn't want to go anywhere near it for weeks (DK1 was still prototype, so it had lot of issues).

Two or so years later, I went to local arcade that upgraded itself with lot of HTC Vive headsets - massive difference, no motion sickness and much better experience. That was my go to place for VR for quite some time, until I decided to get Quest 2 for kids few years down the line.

So, maybe at least try it out, if you have some local VR arcade, before you decide?

I hated 3D movies effects and how it made my eyes feel, and even the 3D on the 3DS was a horrible experience to me. I'm also not a fan of wearing stuff on my head for long periods of time.

I see little appeal on having a big device on my head making me all sweaty (it's very hot 90% of the year around here), and I see it very likely making me feel tired after it because of wearing it and being possibly overwhelmed.

Playing games is a comfort to me and the current VR experience looks like a massive bother.

I had the chance to try both the PSVR and the Oculus Rift once but it was the exact month COVID really took over here and everything was starting getting closed (in fact, that very place was closed because of the pandemic the week after I was there) and tbh I was up to at least try it, but I was already very aware of putting that on my face after so many people, so I did not try it.

I'm up to trying it, but I'm pretty sure it is not for me.
