I don't wanna know. This year I had to replace my playstation and upgrade to PS5 but I've also been buying games on sales as if they'd never go on sale again, I paid for PS premium for most of the year, bought a headset and paid full price for three games which I rarely do. There were some good sales though so I doubt it would break 1k, leaving the hardware out of the equation but probably close enough I don't wanna see the number.

Wow. That's hardcore. I know you bought a PC this year but why are the prior three years so costly and all? Also, are you counting TV's and peripherals and what not?

The previous years I had a lot of disposable income. This year...I indulged in it....and I will stop lol.

None of these numbers have hardware (Computer, consoles, TVs, etc) counted.

Like for an example this year I bought a gaming computer and a Switch OLED - neither was counted in the numbers.

(The steam numbers are like that because of bundles between Humble and Fanatical)

Wow. What software are you buying that amounts to that, surely you can't play all that?

Legacy software (games that came out years ago).

I rarely buy games day 1 or at full price. The last 2 games I bought that came out this year was Luigi's Mansion 2 and Mario & Luigi Brothership - got them both for the amount of $80 total - so $40 each, thanks to the Costco deal for eshop cards - used it in conjunction with the game voucher pass ($80 for the $100 eshop cards -> Voucher game pass which lets you spend $100 worth of eshop cash for 2 games).

The most I've paid this year for a game was Demon's Souls Digital Deluxe Edition (PS5) for $50.

The cheapest game I bought this year was one of the steam games which cost me $0.79.

I'll just play what I can play. I see it as a library/collection and not a backlog anymore.

It's been a lot. I am currently buying up N64 and SNES games, and well... let's just pray for my bank account.

My costs for games + gaming subs have gone down 700 € since last year, almost below 1500 €.

I didn't renew my PS+ and GamePass subscriptions. I only get these subs for single months (f.e. this month GamePass for Indiana Jones and the Great Circle).

Since I got my first Steam Deck early 2022, most of my game spending goes to PC software.
At home my PC was always my main gaming device, but now it is also my main platform for my "handheld time".

I still get great PlayStation exclusives, if I don't want to wait for the (often enhanced) PC port. But this year, only Astro Bot was a must-buy for me.

On Switch, it was a very cheap year for me. Multi-platform games for playing on the go, I get for my Steam Decks. And I'm holding back for the Switch 2 announcement... until it is clear, if the Nintendo exclusives get enhanced versions for the new hardware. Maybe there ain't an upgrade path to the enhanced versions... I still remember that we couldn't upgrade our WiiU-versions to Switch-versions.

My games which costed €10 or more:

  • €48 - Astro Bot (PS5)
  • €26 - Marvel's Spider-Man: Remastered (PC, Raytracing)
  • €26 - Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart (PC, Raytracing)
  • €26 - Riven 2024 Remake (PC, SteamVR)
  • €25 - Die Fugger 2 (PC-classic of 1996, PC Big Box)
  • €24 - Ace Attorney 4-6 Trilogy: Apollo Justice (PC)
  • €20 - Marvel's Spider-Man: Miles Morales (PC, Raytracing)
  • €20 - Sherlock Holmes: The Awakened (PC, 2023 Remake)
  • €20 - Forza Horizon 4: Ultimate Edition (PC)
  • €19 - The Talos Principle 2 (PC, Raytracing)
  • €19 - Broken Sword - Shadow of the Templars: Reforged (PC, one of my favorite Point&Click adventures)
  • €18 - Star Wars Jedi: Survivor (PC, Raytracing)
  • €17 - Persona 5 Royal (PC)
  • €16 - Nobody Wants to Die (PC, Raytracing)
  • €15 - Final Fantasy 12: The Zodiac Age (PC)
  • €15 - The Dark Pictures 4: The Devil in Me (PC, Raytracing)
  • €15 - Ghost Trick: Phantom Detective (PC)
  • €15 - The Dark Pictures: Switchback VR (PS5, PSVR2)
  • €14 - Beat Saber - Queen Music Pack (PC, SteamVR)
  • €13 - Brothers: A Tale of Two Sons Remake (PC)
  • €13 - Sam & Max: The Devil's Playhouse Remastered (PC)
  • €13 - Dave the Diver (PC)
  • €13 - Beyond Good & Evil - 20th Anniversary Edition (PC)
  • €10 - Horizon: Zero Dawn: Remastered Upgrade (PC)
  • €10 - Days Gone (PC)
  • €10 - Justin Wack and the Big Time Hack (PC)
  • €10 - Ven VR (PS5, PSVR2)
  • €10 - Burnout 3: Takedown (Xbox/360)
  • €10 - System Shock 1 Remake (PC)
  • €10 - Star Wars: Dark Forces Remaster (PC)
  • €10 - Rise of the Golden Idol (PC)
  • €10 - The 7th Guest VR (PC, SteamVR)
  • €10 - Resident Evil 4 Remake - Separate Ways DLC (PS5)
  • €10 - Agatha Christie: Murder on the Orient Express (PC)
  • €10 - It Takes Two (PC)

My spending on gaming hardware was quite low in 2024... I'm still perfectly happy with my current gaming PC and the Steam Deck OLED. I only bought a Kinect 1 camera and some games for it before the Xbox360 marketplace closed its doors this summer.

The PS5 Pro was underwhelming (IMHO), perhaps I'll get it after a price cut... or when GTA 6 gets released. The next gaming hardware I'll buy is probably the Switch 2.

Damn!

While I will say my gaming purchases are quite different from yours (Ace Attorney aside), I have to say I am respectful of the graphing/data tracking/budgeting you have shown in your post.

I describe myself as a little dose of toxic masculinity.

1000-1500 - that's my budget. But I'd say less than 200 were for me.

About $96 on PS + premium, bought on discount plus using PlayStation gift cards I bought for 20% off. $30 for Like a Dragon Infinite Wealth, $20 for Star Ocean the Second Story R, $20 fire Emblem Engage, $5 for Okami HD, $7 Blossom Tales 2, and I think $2 for Steamworld Heist. Around $180, might have missed an indie game in there.

I thought in first reading, that you bought DLCs for $6,000. Then I saw that the second list is the number of games, not its worth.

Well, you deserve that your Steam collection is finally bigger than mine.
