I saw this video from a video game industry veteran, Laura Fryer, talking about her experience in game development and how just one person can ruin other peoples years of work by a simple comment on social media. Its not long, but it can explain a bit of why so many developers are leaving these big companies. Poor managment is obviously the biggest reason why people leave. Team work is important and your love of video games has to be bigger than your political beliefs. also the importance of marketing a game right and reflecting on feedback: |
I love Laura's videos and takes, because of how she manages to share her experiences and reflects on her past choices, as well as offering sound advice, all within a calm/respectful manner.
Her views on social media on what can do good or what can cause harm are views I share as well. Like imagine pouring your heart and soul into a game you wanted to do well, and then someone on your team just decides to throw all that away for a personal rage tirade against someone on said social media platform. I'd be devastated and hurt, and I feel like that needs to be pointed out more often, even to those that choose to remain silent.
Mankind, in its arrogance and self-delusion, must believe they are the mirrors to God in both their image and their power. If something shatters that mirror, then it must be totally destroyed.
