I wonder why it took so many years to confirm the sales figure lol, but congrats to the GOAT!
Glad to finally get a confirmation. However, there is still a range of the PS2 selling between 160.01M and 161.8M lifetime given the available from many years ago. Here is to hoping the Switch doesn't end in that range.

You don't want to see the Switch in the 160m+ range?

I mean I don't want the Switch to end between 160.01M and 161.8M as there will be endless debates on which console sold more. The PS2 or Switch. I hope the Switch either sells under 160M or above 161.8M.

Let's hope Switch can break 162.5 million it's time for a new GOAT
Best selling handheld

Don't know why there would actually be a debate on the matter if Nintendo was to deliver a higher shipped number for the Switch than the PS2, at the end of it's life.
Thank the gaming heavens, we finally got Sony to officially post about it.
Sincerely wondering if Sony wouldn't have bothered if an actual close competitor to the all-time number in the Switch didn't appear.

Fair.
Since Sony said over 160 million, I do think that means 160.01-161.8 million potentially like you listed.
And yeah, while it's just a corporation's units at the end of the day, it will be much easier to talk about stats if Switch hits 162 million or above so people can firmly say it outsold PS2 or it falls around 159-159.9 million.
Lifetime Sales Predictions
Switch: 161 million (was 73 million, then 96 million, then 113 million, then 125 million, then 144 million, then 151 million, then 156 million)
PS5: 115 million (was 105 million) Xbox Series S/X: 48 million (was 60 million, then 67 million, then 57 million)
PS4: 120 mil (was 100 then 130 million, then 122 million) Xbox One: 51 mil (was 50 then 55 mil)
3DS: 75.5 mil (was 73, then 77 million)

BTW if anyone wants a breakdown of the range for the PS2 Zhuge over on Twitter has a good summary on the data released from Sony many years ago. He had the range for the PS2 at 158.6M to 161.8M based on the old data, which does suggest Sony saying over 160M for PS2 means the range for PS2 is 160.01M to 161.8M.
According to Sony's website, the PlayStation 2 sold 155 million units. According to Jim Ryan, the console sold 160 million units.

Believe it or not, the final sales figure for the PS2 has been a hotly debated topic since 2013. But what's the actual final number?

So
PS1 102 million
PS2 160 million
PS3 87 million
PSP 80 million
PS4 117 million
No numbers for Vita, they are obviously ashamed of how badly it sold lol
