Here are 2023 october sales for context.
PS5- up 143% year on year
Switch- down 20% year on year
Xbox- down 52% year on year.

I just checked sales in Europe last year. The ps5 sold 621337 units, the switch sold 223760, the xbox series sold 126939.

Switch down only 10 % is pretty astonishing is it not?

NSW is evidence that yes, competitive pricing (alongside all the games ofc) really does bring you a long way.

*edit:    Nvm Dorylus's numbers are not right (just deleted that part of the post).

Here's Install base's hardware numbers :

  • PS5 - 272K
  • XB - 31K
  • NSW - 119K

These seem inline with what gamesindustry.biz said.

31,000 xbox series x/s sold this month across all of europe..... 15k or less of that is the Series X.
Compaired to 272k PS5's.

Thats a massive differnce.

It depends on how it was, previous year :)
10% of nothing, is nothing... so sometimes the up and down % don't mean much.
Last year oct PS5 was up 143%+ ..... so this year's month its down 29% (from that), and that looks bad.... but the numbers of actual units sold are still decent.

That said yes.... Switch still selling 119k consoles this month in europe, is pretty good for a console on its last legs, right before a new one is to be announced.

*edit 2:

Supposedly these numbers are without UK and Germany.
So its not really the "entire" europe numbers (close to all of it though).

Huh. We even had a sale in Europe for PS5 this year and all. Perhaps the economy is really starting to effect people's pockets now cause I know for a fact demand for it is not down and plenty of people calling out how bad BOP6 looks on ps4. Prahps people are just priced out now and there will be a decline as we go on.

When it comes to hardware this report only includes Belgium, Denmark, Finland, France, Italy, Portugal, Russia, Spain, Sweden and Switzerland.

It is missing the 2 biggest markets with the UK and Germany, however, GI posts a separate UK report every month.

Nothing new about the overall and foreseen decline of Xbox in the markets outside of the US. The hardware just isn't attractive for the competitiveness and brand recognition brands like Sony and Nintendo have on the market.

It's no wonder the pivot happened in such a confusing but fast way over the last year. Their big titles couldn't salvage the hardware, so they pivot and become a software ecosystem first with agnostic hardware means.

Not too bad for the Switch considering at the point it is. As usual, can't get a good picture of total sold since it doesn't include their digital sales ....
