Not when 70% are using performance modes, they cater to the majority.

There shouldnt be an option. Especially not on exclusive games. If the developer cant make games look and run great on the console, then the problem is with them and not the console.

True, I surrrpose. They should aim for 60 and try and make the game as good looking as possible. However I like what Rachet and Clank does with 60 RT or 60 Resolution. I choose RT cause the resolution means fuck all when you're far enough away from the screen.

No that would be the $400 dollar Gizmondo in 2005. Gizmondo was a failed handheld froma company run by shady people. One of them had ties to the mob and got into a car accident with his Ferrari. The car split in half. He survived with minor injuries. Anway Gizmondo was a failure on it's own but they sold 2 versions. A cheaper version with ads. A $400 with no ads. Here is the kicker. They never launched the ad service. Gizmondo went belly up before they could. It only sold 25k units. The best part is anyone with a Gizmondo now even as a collector's piece. The units are melting. They had a rubberized coating that after 20 years is melting off in a sticky and toxic mess. Like PSP it had multimedia functionality. Unlike PSP this thing was total trash.

Worth the money is subjective, because it depends on how much money someone has. Checking out DF, no doubt the Pro is a strong jump up. Going from approximately a 2070s to 4070 is big. If money isn't tight, go for it. If $800 is a lot of money, the base unit is perfectly fine.

Yes its worth the money.
Your getting hardware equal to a nvidia 4070.... those gpus are expensive.
If you build a equal pc, its gonna be like double the PS5pro costs.

If you don't own a PS5, getting a Pro is a no brainer.
Spend abit more, be future proofed.
If you already own a PS5, you need to weigh the trade in, get back, vs the costs of the PS5pro, and if thats worth it for you.

So far there are over 87 PS5pro patched games.
And there's apparently a toggle option, that upscale all PS4 games (it says most, but knowing sony it'll be like 99%).

Do you care about those 87 games? Do you care how your old PS4 games look?
If so PS5pro has value.

Overtime, a lot more games will get PS5pro patches, or launch with them.
So its current 87 games pro patched, will grow.

Also even if games arn't pro patched, normal PS5 games will run more stable frame rates, than base PS5.
These things matter to some people.

Is it utterly useless? No. No it is not.

It allows games that have a dynamic resolution to hit 4k more often.
It allows games that have uncapped framerates to hit 60/120fps more often.

It's got vastly improved upscaling, vastly improved Ray Tracing which will come into play later on in the generation.
If you have a super large and/or high quality display, you will notice the improvements in "enhanced" titles.

Is it good value? That depends on you, the consumer. If you see the differences and appreciate the differences, buy the Playstation 5 Pro if you can afford it.
If not... The base Playstation 5 or even the Xbox Series X are still very competent pieces of hardware at a lower price (Although IMHO, still priced high.) and will not be relegated to the trash heap any time soon.

Is the Playstation 5 Pro future proofed? No. No it is not. The regular Playstation 5 will be the target platform. It's still part of the Gen9 console cycle and will end when the regular Playstation 5 ends.

I'm gonna get it. I think for this price the perdormance is ok. Why not include te disc drive? I think the direction Sony goes should be clear now. Without physical media i am not gonna buy any system. Next gen will most likley be Digital only.

I think the main issue is that it's not a balanced setup, the GPU is now way too powerful for the CPU.

If you had a PC equivalent to a base PS5 and asked for advice on how best to upgrade, I doubt anyone would be suggesting you drop your entire budget into just the GPU, as you'd end up with an extremely CPU-bound system, which is what the PS5 Pro seems to be.

It was a while since I watched the Digital Foundry hand-on, but the Sony reps had Oliver (think it was him), sitting absurdly close to massive screens, replicating a setup precisely zero people will have in real life.

For the majority, who I'm guessing will have sub-55 inch screens, and who sit at a normal distance, the advantages of the PS5 Pro will largely be lost.

It's definitely an improvement over the PS5, however the lack of a disc drive and the 100 euro premium, makes it too expensive for me to consider it. I did buy PSVR2 and the PS4 pro at launch. But for me the added value simply isn't worth the extra 600 euro I need to invest to have a PS5 pro with a disc drive, provided I can sell my regular PS5 with an extra TB SSD for 300 euro.

Please excuse my (probally) poor grammar

You're missing the point or read the title and not the OP. I'm saying you won't be able to tell unless you get approx 4 times closer to the TV, this is great for a PC cause you're right up to then monitor but for an average TV at distance it means fuck all. I estimate you have to close two timed the reasonable distance to start to notice changes and 4 times the difference to really see the effect pay off, same way people have to zoom in to show the difference in comparison videos. Also, I'm saying at launch, sure it'll get better but right now it's pretty useless and especially useless for the price.
