Do you watch movies to finish them?
I generally, for the most part... | |||
| Play games to beat them | 30 | 85.71% | |
| Play games to beat but fail to do so | 1 | 2.86% | |
| Play a chunk and move on | 4 | 11.43% | |
| Play the tutorial and fall off | 0 | 0% | |
| Fail to boot up many games | 0 | 0% | |
| Fail to purchase many games | 0 | 0% | |
| Fail to browse games | 0 | 0% | |
| Only read about games | 0 | 0% | |
| have no interest in games | 0 | 0% | |
| Total: | 35 | ||
Depending on how good game is and my interest to it, I try to actually beat it, but if that's not doable (or I lose interest) I first look up a walkthrough/FAQ and when that's not enough I start cheating as much as needed to finish.
I want to see how game ends, even if I don't really beat it.
That said, I do also have backlog of 10-20% of games I've bought (including ones I couldn't run for technical issues and didn't bother to fight it).
Nine Sols is too hard to beat. I can't believe I'm at that age where Mt reaction time isn't good enough anymore. Fuck. I'll be lowering difficulties before long. I feel lesser now that I can't react fast enough to beat these bosses, I know what I need to do but my brain won't act on it fast enough, I can feel the nano second lag between what I see, my decision and what my hands do and it's terrifying, I'm only 34. I thought this shit was when you got to like 50+.

This argument has been made but it doesn't reflect the data. We can clearly see gamers aren't playing to finish games. A study came out since I put up this thread that gamers spend more time watching stuff about games than playing them. The trophies and achievement data shows just that.
I only play games that ignite strong emotions in me. I’m highly selective, I don’t play just any game for the sake of playing it. For me, the ultimate goal isn’t necessarily to finish the game but to savor every moment, to dive deep into its world, explore every nook and cranny, and uncover all its secrets.
There have even been times when I’ve felt a pang of sadness upon realizing I was nearing the end of a game. That incredible experience, the one that kept me glued to the screen and eager to jump back in, was about to end.
Finishing or 'beating' a game is the natural conclusion of a gaming journey, sure, but it’s never the real reason I pick up a controller. For me, gaming isn’t about reaching the credits; it’s about the journey, the joy, and the discovery along the way.
This is Gaming for me.

Sometimes I'll get distracted by other things and drift off of a game for a while (ADHD is a PITA), but when I start a game it's with the goal of finishing it. Aside from the occasional bit of Halo to break things up, I try to focus on one game at a time before starting another.

The aim for me playing games is to have fun.
Actually beating a game often gets tedious or frustrating , so it's rarely the case that I actually beat a game.
Plus, most games I tend to play outside of RPGs are open-ended, so after a while you've seen everything and restart for a new challenge.

Welcome to my world, I am 50 and soon 50+ :/
I always get told Souls games are not made for me for wanting difficulty options :p
It's also time that seems to be dwindling or rather sleep catching up. I used to game until 3 AM in the morning, now I'm already making small mistakes on the track in GT7 at 8 PM.
I finished the Burning shores DLC on story mode. It actually felt more epic, lining up the most powerful shots to one shot machines, and admiring the end boss without having to duck and run for cover all the time. Deaths and having to repeat sections are immersion breaking after all ;)
I tried to beat RE8 at the highest difficulty level, but even in VR I couldn't do the last heavy shooting section. RE7 I could finish on madhouse, RE8 I'm maxed at hardcore, Village of Shadows too much now despite having everything maxed out with infinite ammo.
RE4 remake, I can't complete the shooting gallery challenges anymore :/ Too fast, too little time to react, hands too slow to aim fast enough.
One difficulty level for all was always bullshit, but people will find out the 'hard way' as they get older!
