The original game pushed the Wii U hard and its natural environments are still good looking to this day, so if they can improve the draw distance, resolution and textures it could really pop, at least by "Wii U remaster on Switch" standards.

It is nice that they're going the extra mile instead of just doing the bare minimum.

The confirmation of extra story content is nice to hear; it could also use a few QoL tweaks to bring it up to modern standards, but the amount of effort they've put into other aspects is promising.

Hopefully we getting a UI overhaul with this one too considering the OG has a huge problem of readability and some real small characters on screen. It's quasi unreadable if you're far away from the TV or don't squint. Also some aspects that were clearly not explained as well as it should've since they expected you to read the "online manual".

Good opportunity to make a do-over there

No. Not Xenoblade Chronicles X. There are 4 games and one Prequel. All are on Switch..well X will be in March.

Xenoblade Chronicles DE. Xenoblade Chronicles 2. Xenoblade Chronicles Torna. Xenoblade Chronicles 3. X is the only one not connected to the other games at all.

Monolith Soft's output on Switch has been insane when you think about it; two huge new games, two expansions big enough to be a game in their own right, and two remasters with substantial new content, not to mention helping out with everything from Zelda to Splatoon.

Buying Monolith in 2008 turned out to be one of the best things Nintendo has done in the past few generations.

I'm pretty sure we'll be getting all of that. Though those issues were less prevalent in the original XC for the Wii, they went out of their way and improve both the UI and the tutorials for the DE. And they did a great job.

Knowing that those issues were pretty glaring in XCX, I don't see how they would pass up the oportunity to fix them.

Xenoblade Chronicles 3 came out in 2022 so that might be what you are talking about.

If this exact release had happened in 2017, the discourse around the Switch and its power would have been different. The fact that Breath of Wild could not run at 1080p and a fully locked 30 FPS on Switch despite having exactly the same base assets as the Wii U version was taken as proof by some that the Switch was more underpowered than it really was and barely any better than the Wii U. A game that really pushed the Wii U getting not only the common bump to 1080p but improved textures, character models, and LOD on Switch is pretty much unheard of to my knowledge, and proves that it could have been done in other games but wasn't. It's usually only Gamecube and Wii games that get this much effort put into improving their visuals. Maybe it's a good thing, because games like Captain Toad, Mario Kart 8, DK Tropical Freeze, and Bayonetta 2 would have faced greater scrutiny for not putting in the effort Monoliftsoft put in here.

Better off waiting for Switch 2 version instead, I know I am!

And here I am still waiting for the price to drop on the original!
