MDK. It gave me nightmares for some reason. Can't really understand why when I'd watch the Exorsist and the omen at the time but the vibes of this game made me uneasy.

Crash Bandicoot.
After years playing SNES, that was the game that made me want a PS1. Castlevania Symphony of the Night too, but that was years later.
Resident Evil followed by Gran Turismo.
The first time I saw a Playstation in person was in a gaming centre where people played Tekken 2, Crash Bandicoot, and Resident Evil. I just couldn't believe my eyes.
Final Fantasy 8 had a big impact on me because it was my first full RPG, and those cutscene transitions were mad impressive. But its effect was gradual.
Metal Gear Solid and Soul Blade had perfect openings. MGS would become my favorite game of the generation (and maybe all time). Soul Blade's opening cinematic was so good, it instantly sold me on the game which remains my favorite in the series to this day.
Thread/Poll answer: Final Fantasy VII
True answer: Final Fantasy IX
Going from 2D to 3D was a big leap.

Yeah, having ports of arcade games like RR and Tekken was definitely a plus for anyone looking to buy PS1- but then again, if you already had PC, Daytona USA was ported to it in 96.

Kinda. Nvidia's first card played Saturn ports but they only worked on that Nvidia card. It ran nicer than Saturn but it was a far cry from the Arcade version. We didn't get that until 360.
Last edited by Leynos - on 23 October 2024It was either Crash Bandicoot 2 or Tekken 2 for me but I'd go for Crash because I had first seen Tekken 2 on the arcade when it was not still available for the PSX. I was amazed by it but I was not that wowed as I had seen virtua fighter remix and 2 on PC or elsewhere by that point. However, I was dumbfounded when I saw Crash 2. I had never liked Mario or platform games in general, but Crash 2 made me change my mind (along with the Spyro series later on) and buy a PSX. The graphics of the original trilogy is still superb till this day (as long as you rescale the resolution to work on a hires screen).

Hm...I must admit I don't remember needing specific card for it - it does say on Wiki there were two versions, one for Winfast GD400, and other doesn't state any specific requirements.
Admittedly, this was all happening in the late autumn/early winter of my interest in driving games (only to be sparked for a brief moment with Collin McRae Rally), so even usual memory blurriness is more like a fog at this point on that matter.
