It looks so bad. Why didn't they go R rated, add in the gore and more risqué comedy from the first and why the hell is everyone double the age they should be. Such weird decisions.

Because to Hollywood opinions, staring renown actors cast a better chance for your movie to perform. It certainly did help for a few adaptation so far, even if some were arguably miscasted.

Tom Holland in Uncharted, Mario by Chris Pratt. Not horrible results thankfully, but they definitely helped the buzz happen.

Nonetheless, Borderlands had a huge miscasts for the represented roles and the Directors admittedly did their own adaptation of the franchise without understanding much of a is loved about it in the first place.

Most likely they didn't care that much because it was also likely a movie made "on-demand" from the higher ups. You ain't gonna make good movies like that

Yeah the casting here was fucking horrible.
Cate Blanchett is an amazing actress, but she's way too old for this role, same goes for Jamie Lee Curtis.
I get that they wanted some big names, but are there really no younger actors who have name draw?

This is what happens when you don't respect the source material.

The bad news doesn't stop; the film just suffered the biggest second weekend drop of any widely released movie this year, grossing just $2.35 million.

This is shaping up to be one of the most disastrous flops in years.

The film has ended it's cinema run having made just $31 million worldwide, against a production, marketing, and distribution budget of $145 million. So it lost a staggering $115 million.

Lilith in the first game was 22 years old. In the movie, she is played by 55 year old Cate Blanchett. Tannis is in her 30's but is played by 63 year old Jamie Lee Curtis. Moxxi, the literal sex symbol of the game world, is played by 63 year old Gina Gershon.

Roland, who is stoic and serious to a fault, as well as being a massive powerhouse, is played by Kevin Hart. Read that sentence over again.

These are the characters from the games in name only. If they simply wanted to cash in on the fad of movies staring a bunch of over the hill actors then they should have made them completely new characters.

Take Two and Gearbox got freaking swindled.

apparently the plot and characters are altered from the games as well.
If you adapt a game just don't mess with the characters or story line too much.

If people go watch a borderlands movie, they expect the characters to match the game, and the storyline to do the same imo.

^ this.

This was one of the most predictable turns in the entire entertainment industry in the past decade. It has stunk from the first time it was shown, and somehow managed to become worse than most people feared. My god.

I'm surprised it got to 31 million.
