I'm currently playing, just beat the King of Puppets. It's a flawed game for sure but I wanna get some other takes on it, is this the closest a studio has come to imitating the Soulsborne genre and getting it right? It feels that way to me so far, almost like Bloodbornes less good looking, worse personality, less intelligent sibling.

One thing I'll say, is I would probably have dropped this game early on if I were left with only the puppet blade or early weapons for the first few bosses. They added a special weapon, a sort of long sword glauve type deal that makes the game for me.

Thoughts? How well does it stack up to the leaders and failures in the genre it imitates?

Like I've said in the Elden Ring thread, it was better than Dark Souls 2 and Demon's Souls at least. A lot more linear yes but there are story reasons for some of it later on.

Oh for sure better than Dark Souls 2 but that bar isn't very high and aye, sometimes it's nice to have linearity esspecially after the confusing mess of a map that Shadow of the Erd tree had. I'd actually almost count this as a plus. How did you find the world? Many say it is generic but I find it to be very lightly creepy in a good way, the puppet movements and atmosphere in the locations are definitely up there and it's beautiful in parts, like the Opera house.

Played through the demo and it didn't really do much for me, so I didn't purchase it... which is unusual for me because I devour pretty much any 3D Soulslike going. One issue I had is it felt like a cheap, pale imitation (although so did Hellpoint and I enjoyed that for what it was, so there's something else about Lies of P I didn't like that I can't quite put my finger on).

Better then most but deff not demon souls like some say wth lol

I didn't like the demo much either if that counts for anything.

Since this was their first AAA game I feel the developers must have been a bit constrained by budget, hence its relative simplicity and lack of unique details. But it does its job satisfactorily most of the time.

I enjoyed lies of p, thought is was much better than lords of the fallen. The only thing lords of the fallen had was great visiuals, everything else was quite mediocre, also performance was abyssmal for like a year
