PS5 Sells Nearly 1.3M, XS Tops 28M Lifetime - Worldwide Hardware Estimates for February 2024

The PlayStation 5 was the best-selling console worldwide with 1,285,514 units sold for February 2024, according to VGChartz estimates. The PlayStation 5 has now sold an estimated 55.47 million units lifetime worldwide.

The Nintendo Switch sold an estimated 773,821 units to bring its lifetime sales to 138.50 million units. The Xbox Series X|S sold 358,794 units to bring their lifetime sales to 28.04 million units. The PlayStation 4 sold an estimated 6,363 units to bring its lifetime sales to 117.16 million units.

PS5 sales compared to the same month for the PS4 in 2016 are up by over 12,000 units, while the Xbox Series X|S compared to the same month for the Xbox One are down by nearly 114,000 units. PS4 sold 1,273,065 units for the month of February 2017 and Xbox One sales were at 472,400 units.

PlayStation 5 sales compared to the same month a year ago are down by 510,279 (-28.4%). Xbox Series X|S sales are down by 148,401 units (-29.3%) and Nintendo Switch sales are down by 137,532 units (-15.1%). The PlayStation 4 is down by 15,117 units (-70.4%) year-over-year. 

Looking at sales month-on-month, PlayStation 5 sales are down by nearly 113,000 units, Xbox Series X|S sales are down by over 93,000 units, and Nintendo Switch sales are down by nearly 226,000 units.

2024 year-to-date, the PlayStation 5 has sold an estimated 2.68 million units, the Nintendo Switch has sold 1.77 million units, and the Xbox Series X|S has sold 0.81 million units.

PS5 Best-Seller, XS Has Smallest Drop YoY - Americas Hardware Estimates for February 2024

The PlayStation 5 was the best-selling console in the Americas (USA, Canada, & Latin America) with 497,534 units sold for February 2024, according to VGChartz estimates. The PlayStation 5 has now sold an estimated 23.02 million units lifetime in the Americas.

The Nintendo Switch was the second best-selling console with an estimated 246,485 units sold to bring lifetime sales to 52.86 million units. The Xbox Series X|S came in third place with 232,918 units sold to bring its lifetime sales to 16.78 million units. The PlayStation 4 sold an estimated 1,191 units to bring its lifetime sales to 41.54 million units.

PS5 sales compared to the same month for the PS4 in 2017 are up by over 47,000 units, while the Xbox Series X|S compared to the same month for the Xbox One are down by over 49,000 units. PS4 sold 450,511 units for the month of February 2017 and Xbox One sales were at 282,417 units.

PlayStation 5 sales compared to the same month a year ago are down by 158,476 (-24.1%). Xbox Series X|S sales are down by 55,815 units (-19.3%) and Nintendo Switch sales are down by 119,992 units (-32.7%). The PlayStation 4 is down by 6,408 units (-84.3%) year-over-year.

Looking at sales month-on-month, PlayStation 5 sales are up by over 3,000 units, Xbox Series X|S sales are down by over 54,000 units, and Nintendo Switch sales are down by over 51,000 units.

2024 year-to-date, the PlayStation 5 has sold an estimated 0.99 million units, the Nintendo Switch has sold 0.54 million units, and the Xbox Series X|S has sold 0.52 million units.

PS5 Best-Seller, XS Sees Sharp Decline - Europe Hardware Estimates for February 2024

The PlayStation 5 was the best-selling console in Europe with 434,848 units sold for February 2024, according to VGChartz estimates. The PlayStation 5 has now sold an estimated 18.34 million units lifetime in Europe.

The Nintendo Switch sold an estimated 185,217 units to bring its lifetime sales to 35.64 million units. The Xbox Series X|S sold 71,142 units to bring their lifetime sales to 7.52 million units. The PlayStation 4 sold an estimated 1,240 units to bring its lifetime sales to 45.85 million units.

PS5 sales compared to the same month for the PS4 in 2016 are down by over 33,000 units, while the Xbox Series X|S compared to the same month for the Xbox One are down by nearly 54,000 units. PS4 sold 467,952 units for the month of February 2017 and Xbox One sales were at 124,677 units.

PlayStation 5 sales compared to the same month a year ago are down by 16,288 (-3.6%). Xbox Series X|S sales are down by 52,732 units (-42.6%) and Nintendo Switch sales are down by 22,190 units (-10.7%). The PlayStation 4 is down by 5,277 units (-81.0%) year-over-year.

Looking at sales month-on-month, PlayStation 5 sales are up by over 1,000 units, Xbox Series X|S sales are down by nearly 31,000 units, and Nintendo Switch sales are down by nearly 59,000 units.

2024 year-to-date, the PlayStation 5 has sold an estimated 0.87 million units, the Nintendo Switch has sold 0.43 million units, and the Xbox Series X|S has sold 0.17 million units.

NS Best-Seller, Sales Drop for NS, PS5, and XS - Japan Hardware Estimates for February 2024

The Nintendo Switch was the best-selling console in Japan with 211,407 units sold for February 2024, according to VGChartz estimates. The Nintendo Switch has now sold an estimated 32.33 million units lifetime in Japan.

The PlayStation 5 sold an estimated 160,567 units to bring its lifetime sales to 5.35 million units. The Xbox Series X|S sold 10,234 units to bring their lifetime sales to 0.56 million units. The PlayStation 4 sold an estimated 3,507 units to bring its lifetime sales to 9.67 million units.

PS5 sales compared to the same month for the PS4 in 2016 are up by nearly 25,000 units, while the Xbox Series X|S compared to the same month for the Xbox One are up by over 9,000 units. PS4 sold 135,992 units for the month of February 2017 and Xbox One sales were at 817 units.

Nintendo Switch sales compared to the same month a year ago are down by 9,675 units (-4.4%). PlayStation 5 sales are down by 206,463 (-56.3%) and Xbox Series X|S sales are down by 15,669 units (-60.5%). The PlayStation 4 is down by 1,814 units (-34.1%) year-over-year.

Looking at sales month-on-month, Nintendo Switch sales are up down by nearly 72,000 units, the PlayStation 5 sales are down by over 59,000 units, and Xbox Series X|S sales are down by less than 1,000 units.

2024 year-to-date, the Nintendo Switch has sold an estimated 0.49 million units, the PlayStation 5 has sold 0.38 million units, and the Xbox Series X|S has sold 0.02 million units.

In the grand scheme of things, the PS5 isn't too far from Switch but the later hasn't gone down by much relative to what people expectations were after the poor holiday. PS5 has to fight against it's glowing last year results which isn't matching up to. Better than the PS4 for certain, but at this rate, it might never see the light of day as the reigning console over the market, once the Switch successor drops.
