MS just needs better games period. Sony also doesn't make very good games, and needs to improve there.

But Sony has 3rd party exclusives and has the backing of most of the industry. MS only gets a portion of what Sony gets, which is inherently worse. Nintendo has even less portion, but has good games.

Around the Network

I think there is zero chance that they do not put Xbox game studios games on game pass day one. That would be a total trust killer at this point. Zero chance of that happening.

I think with Microsoft needs to do is to continue pushing hard on gamepass, and gracefully exit the hardware business over the next decade. They should become a platform neutral software provider. They want to do that with game pass. But, if game pass isn't moving quickly enough, or the idea just isn't going to have broad enough appeal, there's no reason not to sell games the normal way on other systems.

Microsoft is and always has been a software company. In the gaming industry, hardware is almost always sold at a loss. Nintendo is able to generally do it at break even. But, there is nobody in the dedicated hardware business that is selling hardware as a profitable business. The hardware is a lost leader to sell software. So, in theory, at least, getting out of the hardware business is a positive. Of course, for it to be a positive and practice, microsoft needs to be able to move lots of software without the dedicated hardware. And they just purchased the company that has been better at that than anybody else in history: Activision. So, they certainly have the expertise to do it.

Anyway, I don't know exactly what they're going to say this week. But I can say with a pretty high level of confidence that Microsoft will be out of the console business within the next decade.

They might continue selling controllers, because people do love the Xbox controller. They'll just need to make those things compatible with Nintendo and PlayStation. But, beyond that, I expect them to focus on software only in the long term.

If you tell people GamePass is now a six month delay, it won’t add many sales because a lot of people will just wait those six months. That’s not a lot of time at all, especially when you’re subscribed to the service and have tons of games to play.

There are a lot of rumors from supposed insiders about what is happening this week but to me it seems like it’s just a continuation of what they have been doing. Yeah it seems like it is elevated compared to before but that’s what happens when you spend 70B on ABK.

Thats a perference and subjective to the games you like.

Is it?  When I google best xbox console exclusives...  the list is bare.  But I'm happy to be influenced.

What does xbox have that you believe is better than spider, returnal, demon, ratchet, ff16, ff7 rebirth, sackboy, last part 1, gow and horizon?

I'm genuinely asking, because I PC game and would happily pickup a MS game that isn't Halo.  I just can't think of any to purchase.

I asked in Microsoft forum for some suggestion of Microsoft games that were not shooters

Didn't get a single response

First if all, something doesn't need to be better to still be enjoyable. Something being better or worse is objective. With that said, I'm well aware Sony has released more quality games on average than MS this gen and prior, but that doesn't mean everything MS has released is a dud this gen, honestly far from it. It also wouldnt surprise me if Xbox has more quality games by the end of this generation with all the games they have in development. As far as games I would consider quality, Xbox has released this generation; Gears Tactic, Halo Infinite, Forza Horizon 5, Psychonauts 2, Flight Sim, Grounded, Forza Motorsport, Starfield, Pentiment, Age of Empires 4, Age of Empires 2:DE, and Hi Fi Rush. If there is a game or 2 you wouldn't include, then cool, but I don't need a breakdown of it, please.

This year from Xbox they have; Hellblade 2, Indiana Jones, Avowed, Flight Sim 2024, Ara, and Towerborne. Point is, they have released more than Halo, with plenty of exciting titles to look forward to this year and beyond.

I should have been more clear.  I'm aware of MS having good titles, but I mean from 2022 to present the Xbox had a drought.  Yes froza and gears are good, but both were 2021 and 2020....  halo Infinite was 2021 as well.  Psychonauts launched day 1 on ps4, thus isn't something xbox exclusive.

MS has been mishandling software launches the last 24 months. They need to do better.

I feel MS is too invested in GP to drop day 1 for their games.

And while there is more to GP than day 1 MS games, I feel that this is the feature that people keep propping up as the definitive reason GP is the superior gaming subscription model available.

And so, I feel losing it is a massive blow to GP and I feel it'll have a massive negative effect. Just how many ppl who have currently been conditioned to getting these games day 1 are now going to buy said game day 1? I just don't see it being a big enough crowd.

Best I see is that that higher (or highest) subs get day 1 releases, and other subs have to wait.

I agree. If they keep GP, and don't want to change much to keep things simpler, then they can just adjust the tiers and charge more for the higher tiers.

Top tier get's everything including all AAA exclusives day 1.

Mid tier get's a select few AA or AAA exclusives day 1, plus all multiplayer live service games day 1 (gotta get them MTX bucks).

Low tier has to wait 1-2 years to get those AA and AAA exclusives, but also get's all multiplayer live service games day 1 (gotta get them MTX bucks).

As for pricing, PS Plus got a fairly significant price hike not that long ago, so GP prices increasing wouldn't be that big of a shock I don't think, and probably wouldn't get too much pushback if the lowest tier remains close to the existing cheapest sub price. MS can just make their extra profits through the mid and top tiers.

This would make me chuckle because I've been thinking SNY should've done this with PS Plus ever since they added the tiers. A 4th tier at the top with all day 1 AAA exclusives for quite a high price. Even if it's not a great deal in terms of savings, you're at least potentially locking those subs up for the future.

With some saying that PS should or will try and put COD into Plus Premium, it wouldn't be crazy to see MS do something like this with GP. Have a more expensive top tier where COD and everything else AAA can make a reasonable profit. Warzone could be on all tiers though.

The more XB steered away from hardware, and more towards GP, the more I'd assume their console owners would slowly shift to PS and Nin hardware (as well as some to PC). MS could make some serious dough off their controllers in this case. Some XB players are diehards for that controller layout and would pay a premium to have it be accessible on other consoles. I'd even bet you'd get more than a few PS and Nin long term players who would pick up an XB controller if they could.

You asked for quality releases, and I gave them. Why the double standard of including 2020 and 2021 releases from Sony, but I do the same you change the goal post? Excluding a game because it's multiplatform doesn't take away from being quality, but fine. Yes, 2022 was a big draught year for Xbox. 2023 had a few solid releases so that already takes away from that narrative of Xbox not having anything since 2021. This year is looking good from Xbox with possibly some other stuff coming, we don't know about. I have a hard time looking at the games you named and think, Sony's is really that much better. I do think it's better, for now, but not anything to brag about. I think it is more interesting looking at the total number of 1st party releases because it certainly defeats the narrative of Xbox not releasing quality games. And since you say you play Xbox games on PC I'm not sure why it matters if it's exclusive or not to a system you don't play.

From the top of my head, Minecraft, Flight Simulator, Age of Empires, Forza, Hellblade 2, Ori and Tokyo Ghostwire (kinda). Also where Microsoft might have too many shooters, doesn't Sony have to many third person action-adventure games.

Please excuse my (probally) poor grammar
