I think this topic is made based on a flawed premise.

The flawed premise is that you will enjoy a game the same no matter when you buy it. I don't think that's true. A lot of your experience is subjective. In particularly, when it's something you've been waiting for and the hype train and marketing machine are running at full speed, it may just hit different.

Sometimes it can work, but only with physical games.

Something like Elden Ring is a good day 1.

Buy the game > play a lot >sell the game at $5-10 discount > repeat.

You have never resold a physical game if you’re telling me you’ve only cut the price $5-10USD. It takes months for me to sell games like DKBananza, Pokémon Z-A, and old Switch games at $20USD below MSRP.

I disagree. Good art is good art regardless of when you experience it.

I enjoyed watching The Godfather even though I wasn't alive when it came out.

Same thing goes for when I played Super Mario Bros.

It really doesn't matter how new or old a game is if it is a new experience to you. If I discovered a game like Balatro and did not know if launched years ago or just the day before it would not make any difference to my enjoyment of it.

Please Watch/Share this video so it gets shown in Hollywood.

I buy day 1 only when I want to support dev's effort - whether I play it right away is, for me at least, completely different and mostly unrelated topic.

Waiting is always worth it.
I also don't understand the comment about Nintendo games.
I could get Donkey Kong Bananza used right now for 40 Euro. That's 50% off the MSRP for a rather recent release.

Recently bought my wife a Switch 1 and every 1st party Nintendo game cost me 20-30 Euro. Yes, retail price is still high but the real value of these games is much lower.

Teach me your ways, Manlytears. As a college student currently selling all my possessions in order to afford rent this Fall (Fun Fact! The Trump admin has slashed >70% of all available funds from financial aid for my education effective July 2026), I must know lol.

Have you never experienced the same piece of art two times and had different reactions?

How we experience art, or anything else, is an interaction between the art and our internal world. Many factors influence our experience and for some, it being new, or it being something everyone is talking about, or being among the first to learn the game's in and outs may make the experience better.

I only buy in pre order the games I REALLY want. Because there is always a bonus on pre order.

For real, I just sold the game to my friends, that's all. All the times, just sold to a friend for a little less. No secret.
