In particularly, when it's something you've been waiting for and the hype train and marketing machine are running at full speed, it may just hit different.

I disagree. Good art is good art regardless of when you experience it. 

I enjoyed watching The Godfather even though I wasn't alive when it came out.

Same thing goes for when I played Super Mario Bros.

It really doesn't matter how new or old a game is if it is a new experience to you. If I discovered a game like Balatro and did not know if launched years ago or just the day before it would not make any difference to my enjoyment of it.
