Not really with you on the annoying complaint (except for stiff vehicle controls), but I totally get the repetition complaint.  For me, I thought it was a fun meta-commentary on Alan Wake himself.  It's like he can't help but be a hack who throws in one-too-many action scenes into each chapter.  Maybe running back to that trough is what resulted in his previous writer's block.  I also deliberately played it chapter by chapter, so it doesn't feel as repetitive either.

The annoyance certainly depended a lot on how much I played of the game at once, but there were several action sections especially late in the game that I found just massively frustrating to play through because of the awkward dodge and how often the enemies can sneak up on you basically invisible.

I gotcha.  Did you ever get around to the DLC chapters?

Oh, heck, I forgot Alan Wake came in 2010 for Xbox 360.

Then, my vote goes for Alan Wake.

Not sure if was mentioned in pages 2 or 3, but Sin & Punishment: Star Successor is ineligible. I know because I’m pretty sure I mentioned it in the 2009 poll thread.  Edit: Seems I’m the first to mention this in this thread so far.

To replace it in the other section here are some games that I think deserve mention there. I especially loved Super Scribblenauts and Ghost Trick, while Etrian Odyssey III has a cult following that resumed with the HD remaster this year.

My vote went to Super Mario Galaxy 2, but it was closer than I expected.

This brought me back into gaming.

Oh man I thought Sin was 2011. Maybe I was confused it when I bought it. Fucking amazing game. Might be the best in the genre.

Yeah released in Japan during 2009, then got an English release during 2010.

Yeah, I played through them. I liked them about the same as the base game, largely the same positives and negatives. I think the main aspect of the game that I liked is the world it created, which Remedy then expanded upon massively in Control. Haven't gotten around to Alan Wake II yet though.

Donkey Kong Country Returns because of how it revolutionized platforming.

I prefer Galaxy 1 for its story and grander feel, but 2 is still one of my favorite games ever. Mass Effect 2 and Xenoblade would be my second and third picks. Shoutouts to Red Steel 2 for being such an amazing sword-fighting game with its motion-plus controls and to Goldeneye for managing to combine the old school elements of the N64 classic with the then-new school Call of Duty elements so well. It may be the best pure shooter on the Wii.

Mass Effect 2 for me. It is what got me into the game series and it's got a great story, replayability, and tone. It gets my vote this year but have to say some great offerings. New Vegas, Black Ops (still think this was the best CoD MP), KH ByB was a lot of fun and had one of the best boss fights in any game for me.

Hmm, pie.
