Dragon's Dogma 2 ran poorly at launch but optimizations were made and it now runs between 45 and 60 fps on base PS5 and can hit 80 fps on the Pro (which has a slightly more powerful CPU). Dark Arisen may be getting further optimizations enabling higher and more consistent framerates.

Games with 60 fps modes on PS5/Series X shouldn't be difficult to port to Switch 2. Not to mention Capcom's recent games use crappy upscalers on base PS5/Xbox that do nothing to improve image quality. Thanks to DLSS, Switch 2 can significantly decrease the workload by lowering the native resolutions.

The recent Direct saw a number of titles that should prove interesting cases; Dragon's Dogma 2 and Warhammer 40K Space Marine 2 for instance are two games that are quite CPU heavy and really struggle on Steam Deck.

Lords of the Fallen II and Stellar Blade could also be noteworthy in terms of getting big current gen titles onto Nintendo's hybrid.

I wouldn't compare SW2 ports with PC versions running on Deck - while there are some optimizations occasionally for Deck, either from devs or Valve, there isn't one single game that has actual Deck native port, treating it as fixed console hardware - it just doesn't make sense for publishers to do it from ROI point of view.

Yeah,I know it's not a 1:1 comparison as the Deck generally doesn't get a custom version tailored to the hardware, just mentioning it as a frame of reference, given Switch 2 is similarly powerful.

We may well see a case like Star Wars Outlaws where bespoke tweaks allow for a Switch 2 version that's much better than the more agnostic Deck equivalent.

Unreal Engine 5's 5.8 update includes a medium quality version of Lumen that is "twice as fast" as the high quality version, which is says is now the default for "handheld consoles".

According to their VP of Engineering:

“Lumen Light is designed to preserve much of the visual impact at a significantly lower GPU cost. That makes Lumen viable where it wasn’t before, including on Switch 2. And that work is already helping drive further nanite optimization efforts for the platform.”

Great news - all platforms will benefit from such optimizations (which is not UE5's strong suit).

Yeah UE5 on Switch 2 hasn't been hugely impressive so far outside of Layers of Fear, (which already got Lumen up and running) so with these optimisations hopefully we'll see future releases do better.

With the mention of Nanite being worked on, it'll be interesting to see if someone manages to get that running on Switch 2, and what that game might be.

Well, if anything, I would expect exactly Layers of Fear to get updated, since it already uses Lumen on SW2 (well, some parts of it).

In an interesting turn of events, Devil May Cry 5 on Switch 2 has a hidden performance mode that targets 120fps.

If you set your Switch 2 to 120Hz in the system settings, the game will uncap the framerate all the way up to 120fps. It's far from a flat 120, fluctuating based on how demanding the scene is, but still, unexpected.

After owning the Switch 2 for one year.

1) main problem is the dock falls forward easily (bad design, the rubber feet are not forward enough) and scratches my screen, the screen is not resistant to scratches, and it is not easy to or cheap to repair, FIX THE DOCK NINTENDO, you should not need a screen protector for a docked console

2) disappointed that it is 8nm, battery life is bad, would like a 4nm revision as soon as possible, will sell my current one and upgrade

3) more third party games need 40 fps modes, for example Split Fiction, and more games need patch updates like Mario and Luigi and more 120fps patches for Mario Kart 8 and Smash Bros

4) oled upgrade please

those 4 things (particularly more 40 and 120fps support) would go a long way
