Forums - Nintendo - Rumor: Switch 2 has 12GB RAM and 512GB internal storage

These specs would be...

better than I've expected 33 66.00%

about what I've expected 14 28.00%

worse than I've expected 3 6.00%

Total:50

Anyway 256 GB is OK. Not ideal, but enough to have at least a couple of games without resorting in uninstalling everything from time to time

512 GB was only a wish of mine. I dunno if Nintendo will offer that option. I would be happy if they do and would of course be my version as long it's not more than 80 USD more expensive than the standard Switch 2

Switch 2 is expected to be around the same performance of a Series S. 4tf with 12gb of memory is what the SS should have been instead of only 10gb of memory.

People seem to think the switch 2 will have enough power to get modern AAA ports... not sure how happy third party developers will be about having to put their games on a 128 gb high speed cartridges, because there is zero chance current switch cartridges have fast enough read speeds for modern AAA titles.

The reason people expect significant jump in internal storage is for third party support.

The only way 128 gb makes sense is if Nintendo wants shitty third party support.

I'm sure they will be happy if say that 128gb is the smallest one and cheapest option ie free, or $10 max.

This is what people seem to not grasp. Yes the Switch had up to 64gb cards, but not many 3rd party publishers used it because it cost them more then the base 8gb one to not cut into their profits. So they used the smallest and required you to download a fuckload. Now for me that is an issue not because I can't afford SD cards, but because I want to be able to collect physical games in their complete glory. Nintendo hindered my collection of Switch by dothing this, hell I would have even gone digital for those games if I could back it up to an external drive like WiiU as its still faster speed then SD

They also don't grasp that SD cards are sloooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooow, significantly compared to other tech is in the other consoles, like 100MB/s vs 5.5GB/s. SD cards won't just the mustard, and you would think they would at minimum need the slower NVME speeds of 3GB/s

his situation is the same as with the Switch and you said you got by just fine with an SD card on the Switch so I have no idea why you are complaining about this as though it would suddenly be a problem next gen. You wanting 512gb internal storage means you think games are all going to get 16x larger in size. THAT IS NOT HAPPENING. You have nothing to worry about.

Dude, I need a 128 GB to fill games in my Switch if the next gen average size is at least 4 times bigger on average of course I will need to have a 512 GB SSD card at least. This whole conversation makes me thing you don't have Playstation or Xbox because if you think storage for those systems were as cheap as 128 SSD cards then I have bad news. In 2019 I have bought 128 for cheap price, but even in 2025 a 512 GB will be far far more expensive, five times more expensive to be precise.

I buy smaller sized games because those are the games available on the system. I mean of you are only planning to buy indies and smaller Nintendo games then maybe 128 GB is enough. If you want to play any kind of AAA western game be prepared to buy a couple of 1 TB SDD cards as other stated here them being over 100 GB is not uncommon.

The difference between me buying a 140 USD card and Nintendo selling a 50 USD more expensive system is quite clear. Nintendo can buy millions of components and put them on the system to resell them as lower price.

There is absolutely nothing affordable in spending over a hundred bucks to fill more than 10 games in a system by the way. But I guess you are just blind with the view Nintendo provides "affordable" systems while Xbox is literally selling a 300 machine that can play fucking Starfield, and you don't even need to pay for it if you subscribe to GP. The affordable company in the market is Microsoft not Nintendo but I digress

"Don't have to pay for Starfield" but has to pay a GP subscription to play it ... Yeeeh, it's not exactly the freebie you think it is.

8 inch screen I think is too big for my liking.
Probably too heavy too.
I hope it have a smaller version.

Probably the Switch 2 will be a bit bigger than the Switch 1 it seems. I don't really think it matters all that much since a Switch 1 wasn't exactly a pocket device to begin with, I mean you can put it in your jeans pockets depending on how deep they are, but it looks sort of stupid.

The reason why I expect a significant jump is because it's par for the course for Nintendo.

Also, AAA games are the shitty third party support. However, every gen the discussion is about what Nintendo must do to get those supposedly important games. This is why sales predictions for Switch were so way off the mark. People's logic was that Switch hardware isn't good enough, therefore no AAA games, therefore no sales.

The first question that people should ask regarding AAA third party games should always be if any given third party is even interested in selling their games on a Nintendo console. Since the honest and realistic answer will be "no" most of the time, much of the storage discussion is moot anyway.

Legend11 correctly predicted that GTA IV will outsell Super Smash Bros. Brawl. I was wrong.

Well to be fair you have realistic expectations for the switch 2.  But many others seems to expect ps5 visuals and modern AAA game ports...

i7-13700k

Vengeance 32 gb

RTX 4090 Ventus 3x E OC

Switch OLED

AAA is like the least important thing to me on a Switch successor. The best stuff are smaller projects in various sizes from 3rd parties. The most interesting stuff esp.
