Forums - Nintendo - What do you want to see from next gen Nintendo games?

Better treatment of Nintendo IPs that aren't Mario, Zelda, Pokemon, Fire Emblem or Animal Crossing. It's time Nintendo finally figured out how to properly evolve Star Fox and how to refresh F-Zero.

Pikmin is finally getting the love it deserves. Fingers crossed for StarFox 🤞

Gotta say I would love to see a new approach for Donkey Kong, maybe instead of heavily focused in platforming (which imo is way overused with Nintendo IPs), maybe they could add some combat elements, something that resembles a hack and slash style, I think they could really explore on this idea based on DK traits

Agreed. Let's see an AAA treatment of Star Fox and Fzero next gen, along with DK and Kid Icarus.

Also want to see more effort put into the sports games. Seemed like all the first party sports games this gen came out lacking. Just strangely low effort on their sports games this gen.

Maybe make it a brawler and call it Donkey Kongbat?

If VR is something Nintendo pursues and there are some actual Nintendo filed patents that suggest they are giving it some real thought, F-Zero and Star Fox make a lot of sense for VR, it could be the dynamic that finally gets Miyamoto to give on those IP and let them have another shot.

^This. Although trying a new gameplay mechanic in one or both of them wouldn't hurt, as long as it's not like the motion controls in Star Fox Zero. -_-

Star Fox VR, Pilotwings VR, and F-Zero VR would all be off the hook wild. It would breathe new life into those IP for sure.

For me a lot of great franchises were lost with RARE but Nintendo never really built similar new ones to replace them. Perfect Dark, Killer Instinct, Blast Crops, Banjo etc. Don't really have new equivalents. Would love to see something in this space.

With Nintendo finding success in movie making, be good to see some of the smaller Nintendo franchises get the same treated, even if through tv series (i.e. Star Fox, maybe even little mac lol). The main reason for that is because it will help grow those franchises if done right and help sell the games to a newer generation of gamer. Star Fox needs to evolve too from being on-rails. Take the best elements of each past game, cross if with deep space exploration and land missions and it could become a massive game that takes hours to complete instead of bugger all time. It is the perfect set up for it as you could cheat and have several open worlds, because by landing on a planet you could make an nice cut over with the ship landing whist a full new open world loads up in the background, then that world is a seeming less as a modern Zelda game when exploring it.

Sports game simulators not Mario themed. Would be great to see baseball, with the biggest player in the sport atm being Japanese, now is the time for it, Ken Griffey Jr was and still is one of the best designed baseball games.

Better third party support, hopefully with Microsoft onboard (if the acquisition actually goes through), not only COD but be nice to see some of the RARE IPs make a return on Nintendo, if Nintendo plans not to do anything about creating new ones equivalent to them.

Now onto the hardware (yes I know I know it's about the software). I hope Nintendo makes the game storage cards big enough and cheap to support 3rd party games better, was tired of seeing half arsed games coming out on the smallest size. To tackle the storage issue of a portable device, perhaps finally allow a game card that has say 30% extra space, which allows room for patches and addons, how good would it be if they were stored with each games so can play on any system. If that is too much to ask for, I liked how the WiiU allowed you to backup everything to an external drive, this is something that needs to come back to the Switch 2. Was easy and intuitive to use. However needs enough juice to power a 2.5inch drive.

ME TOO!! I know they can easily do a stand in for Jet Force Gemini using the Splatoon 3 engine, and a new 3D Donkey Kong as a stand in for Banjo (assuming Microsoft isn't having a new Banjo-Kazooie game made that they want to bring to the new Nintendo system). Killer Instinct would be a tricky one to replace since I don't know if Nintendo has any game engines that can do a traditional fighting game. Maybe it could be a sort of gritty revival of the obscure NES game Urban Champion. Perfect Dark's equivalent may be the Metroid Prime franchise, considering they're both gritty sci-fi FPS games with a badass female protagonist, but Metroid Prime is a lot more open ended and has more emphasis on loneliness and horror. Yes Perfect Dark had some pretty scary moments, but nothing involving the likes of Ridley or Dark Samus's more visceral form at the end of Prime 2.

I really only want a solid 60fps, and better loading times. I honestly would not mind if Nintendo games never looked better than they currently do.
