Timed PS5 exclusive because sliders aren't working for Series S. 22 years as a platform holder.

Meanwhile:
I had a theory all the attention Baldur's Gate III was getting from its massive PC launch would have a positive impact on the PlayStation 5 version sales from excitement / visibility
It appears that's playing out. Baldur's Gate III has jumped to #2 Best Selling Pre-order on PSN pic.twitter.com/j7rr7EbJ1B

that has to mean theres like 4-5 times the amount, that own the game (on steam alone).
assumeing 5-10% of sales are on other platforms (like GoG).... I suspect the game has already sold more than 4million copies.
Also I'm curious what classes did you guys start with?
I went with a Githyanki + Eldritch Knight combo :)
Also guys, lets hope we can break 800k+ concurrent players today (probably the last day to set a peak record).

Haven't started yet, but I'll probably go with Half-Elf Paladin - I usually play Clerics, but I want to change it up somewhat (and don't want to play War Cleric).
Eldritch Knight? That's lvl3 choice for Fighters in 5e, does game start at lvl3 or they moved Martial Archetype to lvl1 in BG3?

When you hit level 3, you can pick your subclass (as a fighter, I started as one).
Fighter currently has 3 (subclasses):
Battlemasters (Superiority dice, for differnt actions/reactions)
Eldritch Knights (Spellcasting, Warmagic, Eldritch Strike) (they can cast magic)
Champion (Improved critical hit, Remarkable Athlete: Proficiency) (they crit more, and add half of proficiency bonus to str/dex/con checks your not proficient in)
I just think Eldritch Knight looked cool.
They can do cantrips into bonus action attacks, or attacks that give disadvantage against your next spell cast, ect.
Plus since we're fighting off the mindflayers at start, I thought it would be neat to be a Githyanki (makes sense RP wise, why you would be a Eldritch knight too).
Half-Elf paladin is solid though (it seems popular (paladin) on resetera, alot there seemed to start bard or paladin, for dialog options).
Apparently most of the "skill checks" in game, presented to you in dialog are CHR based ones (Intimidation,Deception,Persuassion,Performance).
And while you can make use of other characters for the more combat aligned ones like Stealth,Sleight Of Hand, perception ect.... npc's will be targeting your character for dialog, and haveing options is always nice.

I fired it up in the meantime and chose Half-Elf...hm, it is quite nerfed compared to 5e - in 5e half-elf has +2 CHA and two +1 of your choice, and 2 extra skill proficiencies of your choice, which is quite different than in BG3. I was surprised to see my melee chance to hit (with STR+3) on Imp to be 95%...it should be 65%, so it seems they definitely messed quite a lot with 5e stats.
I have no doubt it's a good game (so far, I liked what I've seen concerning choices), but it's throwing me off a lot due to years spent with 5e...I guess I'll just have to try to ignore everything I know about it while I'm playing it and treat BG3 as heavily homebrewed 5e.
Seems like it peaked at 814,666.

Amasing number, but probably the highest it'll ever go.

Tiefling (teethling as Lae'zel puts it) ranger.

It reached the 9th spot, so even if starfield comes in and beats it, it should be sitting at a 10th spot the year out. |
I wonder how many of these PS5 preorderers will be very disappointed. Because they probably think of Final Fantasy or Dragon Age when they hear RPG, but Baldur's Gate is so totally not that. Will they even manage the first turn based fight on the Nautiloid? In early access I needed some time to figure out jumping, they had a gap early on. How many will even manage to finish the Nautiloid, as this plays so much unlike modern games? I just wonder. On PC more players will be used to these playstyles, but on PS5? Just a few doubts here. I am obviously happy about the interest the game gets.

I think most people watch reviews these days before they buy a game to know what they are getting into. I would think most know what they are purchasing and just want to try it out. I think some may give up on it, but I hope most give it a fair shake.
