I guess there's a pretty sweet TotK Collectors' Edition coming out. The only Nintendo CEs I seem to be lucky with are the Fire Emblem CEs.
On the basis of my own evaluation of this direct. I felt like it was probably the one where I've been the most passive throughout. I did get a few good surprises here and there, and the Zelda TOTK was great but appart for the announcement of Etrian Odyssey Trilogy remasters and the new Professor Layton game, I didn't get this much out of it.
Though mind you, most of it is supposed to be for the first half so I do not mind really.
Level 5 really had quite the showcase on this one. Feels like they might on the way to coming back after their darkest hour

Not much big stuff but still a decent direct due to a bunch of cool small to medium things like a new Layton game and GB and GBA coming to Switch online. The lack of new first party games though shows that Nintendo's developers are mostly focused on making games for the successor at this point.
It's disappointing that it's just Metroid Prime 1 and not the full trilogy together remastered but at least the price isn't overly unreasonable. Metroid Prime 4 is probably coming out October or November but it's not guaranteed so while this should be a good year for the Switch the next direct will show if it'll be outright great or just good.

Oooor you know ... They just don't want to show the stuff for the second half of the year so soon because they are still other Directs to be had.
Though I don't doubt some of their teams are already on the works for the next console.

| Darwinianevolution said: It's an ok Direct. While I'm very happy Etrian Odyssey is still going, it's too soon to re-release the first two games again. If they launch without the 3DS story mode, they'll be lesser releases than The Millennium Girl and the Fanfir Knight. I guess this is just to check the waters, but I still wanted a new game... |
More so the asking price for the whole collection made me irk loudly. More than a 100 CAD$ !!
I guess I'll only get EO III on sale later ...
Wonder how difficult it could've been to simply remaster the 3DS versions of EO I/II ...

Directs early in the year have revealed games coming out not only in the 2nd half of that year before but also the following year so that's not a good argument. It's telling that they didn't open or close with a new announcement.

Thoughts:
Zelda looks incredible....though very lame they are jacking up the price to $70 just cuz they know everyone is gonna buy the game. Hopefully this is the only time they ever pull this crap.
GB and GBA added today!!! Already downloaded. Huge surprise! I knew they'd be added eventually but I guessed it'd be toward the end of this year. Cool that GB is for the basic NSO subscription, and GBA just adding even more value to the Expansion Pack. I figured both GB and GBA would be expansion pack so that's nice the added more value to the super cheap basic subscription. And two new systems right on the heels of the GoldenEye release is just amazing.
Kirby Return to Dreamland, plus the new epilogue part looks pretty dang cool. I might eventually pick it up, never had a Kirby game before.
Of the non-Nintendo games Have a Nice Death looks pretty awesome, and the Castlevania Dead Cells DLC looks great. Plus some other cool stuff.
Finally Advance Wars being released! Though it's weird it is coming out in two months instead of just dropping today considering the game was done just about a year ago.
I'm not in Bayonetta but the art style on that Bayonetta Origins game is gorggggeoussss.
Oh that Octopath Traveler 2 video made me want to get the first game. Those games look so cool.
And of course...Metroid Prime remaster!! And released today! I'm totally gonna buy this right now. Love that we went straight from rumors to it being announced and launched in a single day. I'm sure some people will be pissy because its a remaster and not a remake, and it woulda been cool if it was the whole trilogy since its just a remaster, since Wii got the whole trilogy together, but at $40 a remaster of one of the Gamecube's best games I'll take that.
Metroid Prime, GB, GBA all dropping today, and the Zelda video got me very excited. I'm almost not even upset they jacked up the price of Zelda haha.
Solid, nothing spectacular. With Baten Kaitos and Metroid Prime it does tickle the nostalgia bone, and with Tales of Symphonia coming, it's gonna be a Gamecube kind of year. The Metroid Prime shadow-drop was pretty cool, but I want a cartridge version. Good to see Level-5 making a comeback, I thought we were going to lose them for a bit there. Excited for Advance Wars, Cereza looks good.
Hopefully the otherwise light release schedule means they're ramping up for the next Switch.

Not necessarily. It's obvious that Nintendo will release other first party games during the 2nd half this year.
Trying to use the pattern behavioral argumentation for a company that is known to break said patterns whenever they feel like doesn't mean much either.
Not only that but Nintendo has increasingly kept the announcement of said new games to their release date closer and closer so it goes to say, they don't feel the need to rush announcements out when we prolly have a summer Direct to go through this year, which will detail the 2nd half new releases.
