I honestly have a hard time understanding all the people that always start moaning when something has an always online requirement. It's 2023...which one of all these people, voicing their never ending frustration on some forum, twitter, reddit, or wherever else online ISN'T actually online 24/7 on pretty much any device they own? It's such a non-issue for the overwhelming majority of gamers.

If Arkane decides Redfall isn't a sustainable product and they shut the servers down or there are server issues, then players won't be able to play the game at all. That's the bigger issue.

Even if we are talking about keeping a good connection 24/7, not everyone has that luxury especially in less developed countries or rural areas. Voicing issues on social media or whatever doesn't take nearly the bandwidth as playing something online. Back in my college days I had a really shotty connection that made playing online very unstainable. Games like this would be off my radar completely because of it. Maybe watch the video if you haven't already. He does a good job explaining it.

I hope the game is successful and I'm certainly going to be playing it when it comes out, but I don't blame people for not wanting pay $70 for a game that may become unplayable several years from now. I hope it doesn't of course.

bruh, thank you. I feel like a crazy person because i'm like... 2023. Like I do understand the possibility of it "flopping" and being unplayable (however pretty unlikely with gamepass) but that's with every MP, granted this game does have a SP and it is odd they would require it but idk, I legit haven't played offline in the past 13 years except like one time my wifi was out for like 3 days. But if people want to boycott it off principle, to each their own.

To me personally, the far biggest issue is co-op progression being tied to the host.

But it is such a non-issue for the overwhelming majority of gamers so who cares....>-<.

It is like Australians who have to play MP games with a horrible connection because the game doesn't have a server location nearby their country....it is such a non-issue for the overwhelming majority of gamers so who cares...

Or like Japanese,Korean, etc in the past who could barely play a first party xbox game in their native language....it is such a non-issue for the overwhelming majority of gamers so who cares...

Or the fact that only one African country, half of Asia etc has Xbox gamepass available....it is such a non-issue for the overwhelming majority of gamers so who cares...

Bit awkward aswell when you have games like Stalker 2 that Ukranians can't play because they don't have xbox gamepass service available but potentially could download it from PS plus premium because that service is available.

I just don’t want another GT7 situation.

Even for games like Destiny where I played by myself except on raids and dungeons with friends, only for the game to be down for maintenance or an outage. Solo players are screwed because of it.

Servers on always online single player/co-op games are always going down lol. So many gaming plans ruined.

Dear lord my dude, my whole post was about my personal view on it. Never did I say I was against people speaking out or having an issue with it, infact I said if they want to boycott the game, go for it. I personally don't care because I'm legit always online when I game, even for SP games. I wasn't saying that others shouldn't have that option if they want it.

Don't care what the majority wants tbh I wanted no sprint in halo ffs lol

I mean … MS could easily money hat anything they want but choose not because Phil wants to keep up his nice guy facade, no point in them whining that Sony is money hatting shit when they choose not to go after the bigger games.

Interesting that you view Phil principles as nice guy façade.  Could it just be that is how he feels about the market.  In other words, big AAA games do not need money to get to the finish line but a lot of AA/A or brand new IP do need that extra cash to help get the game to the finish line.  I do not  believe Phil is nice or even try to pretend to be so.  You do not get to his position being nice, you get their by making decisions that the big wigs approve of.

Basically I believe that Phil has a plan of how he runs the gaming division for MS and one is not to waste a large chunk of money trying to money hat big AAA titles but instead try to spread that money around to smaller content to broaden GP appeal and let their own 1st party content fill the AAA gap.  This is the whole reason to get Bethesda and ABK/Blizz.

Don’t forget to create your profile on Wizardworld to link to Hogwarts Legacy as you’ll get pretty cool house theme cosmetics.

Its really not a big issue for MS because at the end of the day, this is a GP game.  Meaning that Redfall like other MS AAA games are here to push GP.  You always need a net connection when playing GP games.  MS expect a large sum of gamers on GP to play Redfall whether on PC, mobile, cloud or Xbox.  For Steam and people who do not have GP, it will be up to them if they care but most if not all PC games pretty much is running online all the time.  Even I have to say that this moaning about online for SP and MP just sounds like the usual suspects when it comes to anything from MS.  If your service is really that bad, then Redfall really would not be the game for that segment but then again neither would GP so MS isn't targeting that bunch.

I do agree that the people who fear that the game could be shut down several years from now should hold on to their money.  There really never any real need to purchase a game day one.  If the game gets great reviews and is the type of game you like to play then it probably would be worth the money.  Either why, I just do not believe their is a large segment of gamers who go back to old games like this after 5 years or so.

As long as they make sure that the campaign will be playable once they shut down the servers, I don't care.
I won't buy the game so I need an active internet connection anyway to prove I'm a paying Game Pass subscriber.

Welcome to the modern era of global antitrust enforcement — an elaborate labyrinth of regulatory bodies working together.

The shift now is that what are perhaps the three most important regulators worldwide — the F.T.C., the European Commission, and Britain's Competition and Markets Authority — are roughly on the same page. All of them want to be seen as tough on deals.

Cracking down on consolidation, especially in Big Tech, is politically popular on both the right and left, and antitrust cases are getting more attention from the public.

One former enforcement official, who asked not to be named because his employer had not authorized him to comment, put it this way to DealBook: Regulators would rather fight to block a deal and lose than accept a compromise, because the political cost of agreement is too steep.

The F.T.C. opposed Microsoft's bid to acquire Activision in a lawsuit filed in DecemberMicrosoft's legal team also expects the antitrust authority in Britain to oppose the transaction, while it believes the European Commission is open to potential remedies, according to four people briefed on the matter who were not authorized to speak publicly.

Some of these people said that Microsoft was hoping to convince both Britain and the European Union to accept its concessions and approve the deal, which could make it easier for the company to reach an agreement with the F.T.C. before the scheduled administrative trial starts in the summer. If all of the agencies accept the compromise, the (perhaps wishful) thinking goes, none of them will look weak on Big Tech.

That logic also works in reverse: Any of the three agencies could instead put pressure on the others to oppose the acquisition.

Microsoft’s Activision Deal Tests a New Global Alignment on Antitrust - The New York Times

Even Microsoft thinks that Britain will oppose the transaction. My estimate on it closing is now down to 10%

Lets hope that Politics doesn't outweigh actual laws and common sense though. If FTC's tactic of not putting in any effort, not creating any logical argument, only blocking the deal to push others to block it and do the work for the FTC, actually works...Well, it was a smart tactic but very poor behaviour of a regulatory body and lets hope UK doesn't come rushing in to be USA's lapdog again.

I don't think the vast majority in UK actually give a shit about the CMA being tough on deals.
