Somebody had bad info there, the person who said half at id were gone. id did not have just 190 devs with 95 fired, LinkedIn says 350 people list their current employer as id Software, down from 354 yesterday when I looked, meaning most of the 95 fired haven't updated their LinkedIn yet, which means they should still have 250 or so after the firings. That should be enough for independent AAA development still, Xbox did list Doom and Quake among the IP's they would be focusing on afterall. I think they were mainly going after the overbloated middle management within the studios themselves, the id tech engine team since they want to move to UE5 I'm sure, and any lead and senior devs responsible for the medieval setting of Doom: The Dark Ages, which greatly underperformed compared to Doom Eternal.

Their LinkedIn lists 51-200 employees.

That is company size though, that often sits un-updated by the company itself. 350 people have id listed as their current employer on LinkedIn still, so unless 150+ people had old id software employment from years ago listed on their CV still as their current employer before yesterday's firings, id had grown well beyond 200 years ago. I just asked Microsoft's co-pilot AI how many employees id had between their main Texas studio and their Frankfurt Germany satellite studio, and the answer was 400 devs at their peak, so the 350 would already be down from their peak, they must have already had one smaller round of layoffs after Doom: The Dark Ages underperformed.

Yeah either way, that's a small employee count for supposedly focusing on both Doom and Quake as Schreier listed being the 5 IPs Bethesda will be focusing on. I imagine there will be a lot of co-development alongside MachineGames and maybe even ZOS now that their ESO team has been gutted as well.

Their lead id Tech engineer, Billy Khan, is still listed as employed at id. But entirely possibly he's reeling in the news.

Gamepass should focus on indies and 3rd parties and have big first party releases join maybe a year after release to not cannibalize all the sales. (also bring the price down if we take first party day ones out) otherwise i'm not sure how these exclusives will fair. Also I hate the 3 tier GP system, they really need to restructure that.

Xbox shovelware devs pump out 300 spam updates in 10 days, breaking Gamerscore record

Shovelware developers continue to exploit the achievements system by adding over 300,000 Gamerscore to the Xbox ecosystem via easy title updates over the past 10 days.

Now that we're halfway through the year, Microsoft's semi-annual cap on adding new achievements and Gamerscore to games has reset, and as always, developers pumping out low-effort shovelware titles have wasted no time in firing out hundreds of spam title updates with easy Gamerscore. After crunching the numbers, we've found that 305 shovelware games were all updated with easy 1,000G title updates since June 29.

Microsoft's Xbox achievement policy allows developers to add up to 100 new achievements, worth a maximum of 1,000 Gamerscore, to a game over a six-month period, with resets occurring at the start of January and July. With July now here, shovelware developers have started rolling out title updates that, for the most part, add no meaningful content and exist solely to introduce more easy achievements and make their games more attractive to players looking to inflate their Gamerscore totals.

From June 29 (a couple of days before the cap reset) to July 7, shovelware developers injected a staggering 305,000G into the Xbox ecosystem through these updates alone — the most came from Jolly Lobster Interactive, which pumped out 71 updates. On July 1, the day the cap reset, the record for the most Gamerscore added in a single day was shattered, with 156 updates going live, totaling 156,000G. The record was previously set on January 2, 2026, when 70 title updates totaling 70,000 Gamerscore were rolled out, so this has been beaten by more than double.
*Trueachievements.

I have stopped caring for my gamerscore, but like the thought that the roughly 70k I have do reflect the games I wanted to play for enjoyment's sake and not shovelware I bought to make that number bigger. But then again, to each their own.

Bloomberg reporting that Josh Sawyer will be leading development on a new Fallout game. Avowed 2 cancelled.

New Vegas 2 finally?!?

Bro they need to ban these shovelware devs like Playstation did. Like it's just making the store unusable lol Also feel bad for any casual that thinks these are real games and buys one.
