Somebody had bad info there, the person who said half at id were gone. id did not have just 190 devs with 95 fired, LinkedIn says 350 people list their current employer as id Software, down from 354 yesterday when I looked, meaning most of the 95 fired haven't updated their LinkedIn yet, which means they should still have 250 or so after the firings. That should be enough for independent AAA development still, Xbox did list Doom and Quake among the IP's they would be focusing on afterall. I think they were mainly going after the overbloated middle management within the studios themselves, the id tech engine team since they want to move to UE5 I'm sure, and any lead and senior devs responsible for the medieval setting of Doom: The Dark Ages, which greatly underperformed compared to Doom Eternal.

Their LinkedIn lists 51-200 employees.

That is company size though, that often sits un-updated by the company itself. 350 people have id listed as their current employer on LinkedIn still, so unless 150+ people had old id software employment from years ago listed on their CV still as their current employer before yesterday's firings, id had grown well beyond 200 years ago. I just asked Microsoft's co-pilot AI how many employees id had between their main Texas studio and their Frankfurt Germany satellite studio, and the answer was 400 devs at their peak, so the 350 would already be down from their peak, they must have already had one smaller round of layoffs after Doom: The Dark Ages underperformed.
