edit:
Nope.. didn't work.

Anyways its a twitter/x post from NIB, re-posting stuff from a bloomberg article.
Anyways the long and the short of it:

2024
Xbox ~22,000
PlayStation 12,700

2026 Xbox ~12,800
PlayStation ~12,008

They fired a ton of people, over the last 4 years.
That is the crazy part. I'm not sure if this is accuracte, as I cant even read the bloomberg article (its paywalled).

*edit 2:
Googled it, and the Ai says 12,800-13,000, as the current headcount at xbox.

The Bloomberg article never mentioned the new headcount at Xbox. But as far as I am aware they haven't laid off 10,000 employees across the layoffs the last few years. Even when you add in the employees part of the 5 studios being divested.

I would never trust AI announces. I just did a search for how many people work at Xbox and the AI answer at the top says "Xbox currently employs approximately 18,000–20,000 people following recent layoffs and restructuring."

Digging deeper I see BEFORE the 2024 cuts there were ~22,000 employees across all of Xbox. 1,900 were laid off in 2024 bringing the total to ~20,000 (VGChartz article). The latest round adds up to 3,200 laid off - 1,600 this week and 1,600 more by June 2027 (VGChartz article). That would bring the total to ~16,800. Then add the unknown number laid off from the July 2025 layoffs, but taking a look is most likely under 1,000 (VGChartz article). So we are likely talking Xbox will have ~16,000 employees once the next 1,600 people are laid off.

Blizzard alone has 6,000+ employees and will likely see the biggest layoffs with the remaining 1,600. Xbox Game Studios and ZeniMax/Blizzard have already been hit pretty hard while ABK was barely touched.

Happy to hear id and id Tech are still fine. I've now seen 2 different sources confirm that id is still big enough to develop a AAA the way AAA's used to be made, without all of the bloat, and that there are still enough engine devs on the id tech team to finish the upgrade to id Tech 9 that they had already started on after Doom: The Dark Ages released on id tech 8. Meanwhile machine has their own Motor Engine they can upgrade on their own, which was based on id Tech 7, with added RTGI, path tracing tech, and RTX Hair from Nvidia, presumably they were already using that engine on Wolfenstein 3 since Indiana Jones released and will keep upgrading it into the future.

Yup, there it is. From id themselves. Looks like they were able to navigate around the layoffs to a point they were confident to continue.
