Forums - Nintendo - Bayonetta OG Voice Actress Calls For Boycott of Bayonetta 3

Sry I remembered one more thing. In addition with the Bayonetta movie adaptation, nobody is talking about the pachinko slots even elsewhere from the looks of it (which makes sense bcuz it's only in Japan) so I thought that would be something worth mentioning. With the pachinko slots, it makes it more believable with her statement claiming $450m+ franchise bcuz Sega is big with slots, and pachinkos are big in Japan. However it is still misleading bcuz pachinko business is completely different with how it functions and doesn't have anything to do with game developing nor really the value of the IP. But she probs doesn't even know the difference nor doesn't even play games by the look of it. According to twitter, she didn't even play any Bayonetta games by 2017, so it makes sense why she said that to help her claim

I won't. I don' think boycotting would get this matter anywhere.

You are still missing the point I'm trying to convey to you. You said she was mad because she didn't get paid what she wanted. And I'm trying to tell you that the reason is far more complicated than that. That's all. I don't want you to boycott the game. I want you to reduce the situation of this person to a simple tantrum over some dolars.

I'm not trying to simply anything.  I know her story and only her story.  I have no idea what really happened.

Ummm... Yes, you did simplify things. You said that this whole thing happened because she wanted more money. Which is far from the only problem she faced with this situation.

The Bayonetta 2 situation was completely different. No one was perjudiced un a personal level by that decision. They told the truth: they barked at many publisher's and none wanted to bring the project to life. Nintendo came in and paid for the game. End of the story. If fans didn't like the truth, that's on them.

And here you go:

https://comicbook.com/gaming/news/bayonetta-3-recast-hellena-taylor-jennifer-hale-nintendo-switch/

"Various overlapping circumstances made it difficult for Hellena Taylor to reprise her role".

I think it's pretty clear that they reffer to circumstances on Hellena's side. Not in general.

Well she didnt want to do the role, so it is on her side. They offered her 4K and she said no. How is that PGs fault when thats the industry standard?

Again I would pay her more, but they didnt want to. Why? I dont know. Maybe she is difficult to work with? Maybe they just wanted someone else? Its hard to speculate on that without hearing from the other side.

All we can do is take her word for it. She has no evidence for anything. At least show us the email or whatever where Kamiya offered her 4K. Or tell us how much money you wanted. So until I hear from PG or she shows us something substantial, Im not going to just take her word for it.

Holy shit, you really are twisting things here.

She didn't want the role? Are you nuts? She called herself "the voice of Bayonetta". She is mad about somebody else taking that role from her. Of course she wanted the role. But she was not happy with being humilliated with less than the average payment and getting the bare minimum after writting a flippin letter to Kamiya. This whole situation after being the de facto voice of the game's protagonist for over a decade is just plain disgusting.

She didn't turn down the role. She turn down Platinum. And after that, as I just proved to you, they went the extra mile and blame her for not being in the game. As I said, if that was actually the case, she wouldn't have any reason to do this whole show. She made those declarations because they are lying.

It's been 4 days and the only thing we got from Platinum is silence. Well, that and Kamiya getting kicked out of Twitter for being a literal man child.

If she showed the email, she would be in actual trouble. That's most likely confidential documents or at the very least, a private conversation that she has no right to show to the public.

Believe what you want. I have nothing more to say for the moment.

Well you believe what you want. She turned down the role. This is on her. PG has no obligation to finance her life. They offered her what they thought she was worth. She hasnt done voice acting for like 8 years. She is not the selling point. Which you can see now that the boycott has backfired and the game is sold out all of a sudden on Amazon in several countries.

I think both of u r getting it a little twisted here with multiple back and fourth. KLXVER said "Well she didnt want to do the role, so it is on her side. They offered her 4K and she said no. How is that PGs fault when thats the industry standard?" bcuz Vodacixi (you) stated "I think it's pretty clear that they refer to circumstances on Hellena's side. Not in general." To explain KLXVER's response, since it was her decision ultimately that refused the role, it means IT WAS circumstances on Hellena's side for not taking the offer. Not Platinum. They just provided a normal offer, they weren't the ones kicking her out. Which means it surely wasn't Platinum's circumstances. Now this is my opinion, but the whole back and fourth was pointless bcuz both of you are wrong. Platinum's response wasn't referring to anyone's side idk how u got that impression Vodacixi, bcuz IT WAS just a statement "in general".

"Various overlapping circumstances made it difficult for Hellena Taylor to reprise her role" is a generic PR answer so they weren't blaming her at all, I don't see anything wrong... It can literally mean anything. In fact I want to know how people are interpreting this statement as something negative towards Hellena Taylor or is a lie about what happened.

Kamiya was not kicked out from Twitter, he left on his own, and came back on his own. If ur talking about the restriction, it happened bcuz he simply blocked too many people at once.

Instead of seeking to convince others, we can be open to changing our own minds, and seek out information that contradicts our own steadfast point of view. Maybe it’ll turn out that those who disagree with you actually have a solid grasp of the facts. There’s a slight possibility that, after all, you’re the one who’s wrong.

Platnum and their boss (Whatever his name was) were always immoral pricks, but hey, lets defend our precious.

It’s not about you.

But it is about her?  We should screw over multiple dozens of programmers because one person didn't like her offer and willingly turned it down?  Like seriously, this is an actual discussion?

You had a complete change of heart in caring about strangers since your first?

Either way, straw man and a virtue signal still doesn’t make this about you.

They still get paid like shit. Thats just how it works. Not the fault of the industry. The Unions just suck at negotiating.

Sure some are , in small games, indies , voice actors need to start somewhere. Its its fault of SOME of the industry, not all the industry. Are you a voice actor? Do you know someone of the unions? No you dont.

I'm pretty sure Troy Baker doesn't receive very low payments.

And yes there must be space for people starting, to do small roles, perhaps very low payment until they can really make a career on it. If most professionals can't make a living of it (regular one, not just barely above starving) them that is an industry wide problem (sure it could be better, but I don't think the whole industry is on a level of VAs starving or being underpaid/overworked, in this spot I would say regular devs are more overworked).

Yep. Let's pretend 150M of the IP worth is on gaming, 50M on movie, 300M on the pachinko. Yep I don't think the other two have anything with her (if it was also the model for the char itself and sustaining the IP on her perhaps that would justify a claim, and well if it were she would certainly be better paid or at least harder to dispose of).

Also even if the IP in gaming is worth 150M that doesn't mean she deserves more money, the subject is does the work she do is worth more than what they were offering (I do think it is), and that have more to do with level of production than revenue itself.
