It isn't my job to help a stranger get a pay raise. That is her role and responsibility. People are making something out of nothing

It’s not about you.

But it is about her?  We should screw over multiple dozens of programmers because one person didn't like her offer and willingly turned it down?  Like seriously, this is an actual discussion?

Did really offer her the equivalent of 80 copies of the game? Is it a standard in the industry? I mean, even if it is, it's still quite shocking, especially where it's the voice of your main character.

It does seem pretty standard

One of the voice actors from Nintendo's breath of the wild, who voiced 3 characters in the game says he got between 2000 and 3000 USD for his work.

Though he did say that his pay was based around total time in the recording studio, and the 3 characters he voiced, revali, the great deku tree (and I forget the third) all had very little screen time so you could argue that his pay, was reasonable, even though Nintendo could have payed him more with very little impact on them.

It think it's more than just an economic matter. If Platinum just shut their mouth, Hellena would have probably not said a single word. But they publicly lied about the reason she would not return and blame her entirely. That plus the money thing (in which PG initially wanted to give her even less than 4k) make her mad.

One thing I just realized by watching the last Bayo 3 trailer: in Bayonetta 3, there are MULTIPLE Bayonettas. That means, it's very likely that the voice actress would have more lines to work with and with different registers. Which means more time, more work and a harder job.

This 4k number seems more and more shameful as time passes. I don't even want to know how much Platinum wanted to pay Hellena at first.

Jesus, no wonder she's mad...

Or maybe less, if they intended to have Jennifer Hale come in from the start. It's only a rumor, but I've heard musings that Jennifer Hale was intended to be the main character as the younger Bayonetta, with Taylor reprising her role as the original but having much fewer lines than the first two games. Less work would explain why the offer was initially lower than union standards and why Taylor has such a hateful attitude for Hale, since Hale was always going to replace her even before Taylor turned down the job.

I don't care if Morgan Freeman was doing her voice acting, I'm buying it.  Bayonetta is a fantastic game and franchise and I ain't boycotting it over a voice actor change.

How are programmers getting screwed here? Do their paychecks that they've been paid disappear suddenly? Nintendo is the one who gets the profits as IP holder and publisher, not Platinum. The most the programmers will lose out on if the sales are bad would be bonuses, but often bonuses for programmers are tied to reviews not necessarily just sales.

I dont care
I’ve been waiting for more that 6 years !!

You don't think boycotting this game would have ramifications to the programmers, developers, artists, musicians all employed by Platinum?  You believe it would have no impact to their company profits?

I believe Platinum Games has positioned itself as the go-to cheap third-party developer in Japan and will not have trouble getting contracts if Bayonetta failed. They are one of the most prolific developers in the country. Work isn't going to run out, especially not because of a boycott.

If sales hurt anybody at Platinum it will be the executives and management who likely have some royalty agreement. Regular developers rarely have these things. At best they hope for minor bonuses (a few single digit % of their salaries.)
