How are programmers getting screwed here? Do their paychecks that they've been paid disappear suddenly? Nintendo is the one who gets the profits as IP holder and publisher, not Platinum. The most the programmers will lose out on if the sales are bad would be bonuses, but often bonuses for programmers are tied to reviews not necessarily just sales.

You don't think boycotting this game would have ramifications to the programmers, developers, artists, musicians all employed by Platinum?  You believe it would have no impact to their company profits?

I believe Platinum Games has positioned itself as the go-to cheap third-party developer in Japan and will not have trouble getting contracts if Bayonetta failed. They are one of the most prolific developers in the country. Work isn't going to run out, especially not because of a boycott.

If sales hurt anybody at Platinum it will be the executives and management who likely have some royalty agreement. Regular developers rarely have these things. At best they hope for minor bonuses (a few single digit % of their salaries.)
