Forums - Gaming - Oh noooooooo!: tri-Ace announces huge loss. Possible state of insolvency.

Sony passed over and over on a JRPG from ex Wild Arms dev recently and that's why those devs took it to Kickstarter and had great success there.

So it seems like Sony has very little interest or at least very picky on what they invest in when it comes to small JRPG's and their devs. I wouldn't think Sony would be interested in Tri-Ace at all.

I mean, on their kickstarter they pretty much confirm in black and white that 1) they pitched their concept to various publishers (not just Sony) and none of them bit, and that 2) they had no proof of concept. Armed Fantasia & Penny Blood by Double Kickstarter — Kickstarter

if they didn't even have a POC, why would any publisher just back their game?

SE is looking for money and even slimmed out so I don't think they would buy tri-Ace.

And regarding studio with people but no IP Sony have bought similar situation (like in Insomniac), it makes a lot cheaper and also allow Sony to foster them and give IPs they have dormant, so not totally unlikely.

I do feel that Sony wouldn't bother either, but I do think the similar situation probably makes them a viable enough candidate. Like you said, Sony have dormant IP that Tri-Ace can attach themselves to.

I'd prefer Tri-Ace not be in this situation to begin with, but let's hope they get out of it somehow.

Me too, if it was a choice I would like most studios to keep their independence, and if possible even be able to invest to grow and make bigger/better games.

And on the wild arms, what was the size of the studio, their need of growth and objective? As you said it didn't even seem like they had a plan.

They have financial problems as well? I could see a few companies biting at the chance for MS to buy them. MS can offer stability and a big budget for L5 or even Tri-Ace in this case, which even if someone isn't an xbox fan they should be happy a company doesn't go under (and you can always play the games on PC day 1)

Regardless, hopefully Tri-Ace will make a comeback, don't know if this new SO will do that for them

A Japanese company is less likely to sell their company to MS than almost any other company.  Selling to Nintendo, Sony, Embracer, Tencent, another Japanese third party, hell even the Saudi prince are all more likely.  These Japanese companies don't want to be bought by a company that as of Feb 2022 had only sold 2.3 million systems between all of it's generations in Japan (Xbox, 360, One, and partial Series)

They already confirmed to be in talks with several JP devs to be acquired, JRPGs sell most in the west anyways and these games will be on PC (that has a seemingly large JRPG fanbase). If you don't think a struggling dev will love to be bought out by MS, think again.

Yes Sega was the missing piece of this Tri-Force . Sega/Atlus, Level 5, and Tri-Ace all 3 together would be pretty good gets for Ms.

Agreed on those. Platinum and CyberConnect 2 would be good grabs for them as well.

Some JRPGs sell better on west, but would be hard to prove that JRPG in general sell most in the west, even more on Xbox. I don't remember a single JRPG being multiplat and selling most on xbox.
