Forums - Gaming - Does the Steam Deck REALLY Destroy the Switch?

If I have to choose, I woild definitely pick steam deck over switch.

But apparently you have neither (otherwise why you choose the word would). So you part of the reason why SteamDeck never will be near Switch in sales. Because most of the ones that *would* pick Steam Deck over Switch, don't pick any one of these. Thanks for the example.

You do know that the Switch OLED runs on the same hardware as the OG Switch, right?

I think thats his whole point. Nintendo could of done much better but they didnt.

And yet Switch is successful, and some people can't understand that and have to post endlessly on the internet about it, as if that would change the fortunes of the Switch.

true.  I dont own a handheld just because handheld isnt for me but if I have to choose, I would definitely pick steam deack over switch... jeez... my comments is just that simple.  no need to make it look something it isnt.

What point are you making exactly?.

My point is, that it doesn't matter, as this isn't what defines the value of the system for most people. Sure, a minority sees value in that, and they will or already have bought a Steam Deck. But apparently the people who care about it, are only few.

EDIT: Or the people who care about that don't want a handheld.

I don't. I just point out, that probably the majority of people who prefer Steam Deck over Switch aren't much into handhelds to begin with. Which does explain the sales. But I guess Valve doesn't have the goal to become market leader for handhelds, so I guess it is fine.

Yeah, a mid-gen refresh of the Switch with a more powerful SoC would have made much more sense than with the New 3DS, since all Switch games are scalable anyways (docked and undocked mode, 3D engines with dynamic resolutions and adaptable presets).

But Nintendo decided that the 2017 hardware with a prettier screen is „good enough“.

I'm fully aware and don't take issue with anybody who prefers PC over Nintendo.  I was just stating my personal opinion.  Nothing more.  Am I not entitled to my preferences?

For me the Steam Deck doesn't (legally) play Nintendo games.  As for 3rd party, I'll stick with my ps5.  Not too mention the ps5 has a number of exclusives as well.

Its legal as long as you own them. This has been proving so no point in anyone trying to deny it unless you can show me otherwise.

No it isn't and no it hasn't.  Pirates have simply convinced themselves certain things are legal when clearly it is not.

I remember back in the day people used your exact same 'argument' claiming Napster was legal.  How did that work out?

If you want to pirate, by all means.  But be honest about it.

If there is no law prohibiting, it's legal. It's companies who brainwashed gamers to believe it's illegal, they understand they stand for no legal ground to forbid emulation.

Microsoft indeed stopped pretending emulation is illegal for a while: https://www.eurogamer.net/emulation-should-be-used-to-preserve-older-games-xbox-chief-phil-spencer-suggests

What is illegal is not owning a legal copy, but if you have a physical game you are allowed to do whatever you want with the source code as long you don't go against copyright laws. If you developed your own console, building it part by part and then played your copy, would it be illegal ?

So if I own Disney movies on DVD I don't have to pay for Disney+ I can just "legally" make digital versions... sure.

People often confuse not enforced with legal.  I speed to and from work all the time...  never received a citation.  That doesn't mean I'm not breaking the law.  It simply means it isn't being enforced because local law doesn't see the effort being worth it.

For the record I have zero issue with pirates.  I get why people pirate.  Nintendo has their classic games behind a subscription which is annoying.  Square hasn't released their classic SNES on consoles in a long time, and their Steam prices are stupid high.  So I get why people do it and I don't take issue.  I'm just not going to pretend it is something it isnt.
