Switch vs Wii Sales Comparison in Europe - May 2022

This monthly series compares the aligned European sales of the Nintendo Switch and the Nintendo Wii.

The Wii launched in Europe in December 2006, while the Nintendo Switch launched in March 2017. Therefore, the holiday periods for the two consoles do not lineup, which is why there are big increases and decreases.

Switch Vs. Wii Europe:

Gap change in latest month: 164,896 - Switch

Gap change over last 12 months: 2,838,247 - Switch

Total Lead: 3,117,348 - Wii

Switch Total Sales: 27,764,020

Wii Total Sales: 30,881,368

May 2022 is the 63rd month that the Nintendo Switch has been available for in Europe. During the latest month, the Switch caught up by 164,896 units.

In the last 12 months, the Switch has outsold the Wii by 2.84 million units. The Wii is currently ahead of the Switch by 3.12 million units.

The 63rd month for the Nintendo Switch is May 2022 and for the Wii it is February 2012. The Switch has sold 27.76 million units, while the Wii sold 30.88 million units during the same timeframe. The Wii sold current Switch sales in month 54.

The Wii sold 33.12 million units in Europe during its lifetime. The Switch needs to sell another 5.36 million units to outsell the Wii.

May 2022 is the 63rd month that the Nintendo Switch has been available for in Europe. During the latest month, the Switch has grown its lead over the PlayStation 3 by 113,931 units.

In the last 12 months, the Switch has outsold the PlayStation 3 by 1.49 million units. The Switch is currently ahead of the PlayStation 3 by 1.49 million units.

The 63rd month for the Nintendo Switch in Europe is May 2022 and for the PlayStation 3 it is May 2012. The Switch has sold 27.76 million units, while the PlayStation 3 has sold 23.31 million units during the same timeframe. The PlayStation 3 did not reach current Switch sales until month 80.

The PlayStation 3 sold 30.87 million units in Europe during its lifetime. The Switch needs to sell another 3.11 million units to catch up to the lifetime sales of the PlayStation 3.

The Switch has these two in the bag just based on the fact that they plan to ship 21 million units globally this FY.



My guess is that Microsoft is pretty happy with how the X|S has been doing so far. It's definitely doing better than the XB1.



The PS5 has stopped the fast decline so it should hopefully be able to keep up with the PS4 better throughout the 2nd half of this year compared to the 1st.

May 2022 is the 63rd month that the Nintendo Switch has been available for. During the latest month, the gap grew in favor of the Switch by just 2,495 units when compared to the PS4 during the same timeframe.

In the last 12 months, the Switch has outsold the PS4 by 4.60 million units. The Switch is currently ahead of the PS4 by 15.69 million units.

The 63rd month on sale for the Nintendo Switch is May 2022, while for the PlayStation 4 it is January 2019. The Switch has sold 108.45 million units, while the PlayStation 4 sold 92.76 million units during the same timeframe.

The PlayStation 4 did not reach current Switch sales until month 78 where it sold 109.27 million units.

The PlayStation 4 has sold 116.90 million units through May 2022. The Nintendo Switch is currently 8.45 million units behind the lifetime sales of the PlayStation 4.

Switch is now above PS4's last big holiday, it's pretty much just a matter of time now, and not a whole lot of time either, at the rate Switch is moving.

This has been a great race to watch, but the finish line is coming up fast.

PS5 vs Xbox Series X|S Sales Comparison in the US - May 2022

This monthly series compares the aligned US sales of the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S.

The PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S both launched in November 2020. The Xbox Series X|S launched in the US on November 10, 2020, and the PlayStation 5 on November 12, 2020.

PS5 Vs. XSX|S US:

PlayStation 5 Total Sales: 7,349,755

Xbox Series X|S Total Sales: 7,261,479

May 2022 is the 19th month the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S has been available for. In the latest month, the gap grew in favor of the Xbox Series X|S when compared to the aligned launch of the PlayStation 5 by 100,325 units.

In the last 12 months, the Xbox Series X|S has outsold PlayStation 5 by 718,622 units. The PlayStation 5 is currently ahead by 88,276 units.

The PlayStation 5 has sold 7.35 million units in the US in 19 months, while the Xbox Series X|S sold 7.26 million units. The PlayStation 5 has a 50.3 percent marketshare, compared to 49.7 percent for the Xbox Series X|S.

The PlayStation 5 is currently 542,659 units behind the PlayStation 4 in the US when you align launches, while the Xbox Series X|S is ahead of the Xbox One by 21,748.

Xbox Series will most likely take the lead in a couple of weeks.

Low stock is really hurting Sony.



The fight between PS and Xbox for the US is incredibly fun to watch this gen.



Interesting, Xbox 360 was probably the best selling Xbox in Japan. Was it because of the support of JRPGs?
